Will have to say one of the best ran tournaments I've even been apart of. Big thumbs up to BASS for doing such a great job. Fish care was top notch along with everything else..

If only there was not so much hole sitting going on. Saw to different boats around Harrison Bay sitting on holes then moving when there kids boat came down

Interesting..... that doesn't surprise me with that many boats involved

Logan Henderson and Steven Swann of Springville Anglers Bass Club in Alabama won the 2017 Costa Bassmaster High School Southern Open in Dayton. The highest placing area team was Kaleb James and Davey Warf from Sale Creek Anglers (pictured) below.

It was ran well. We were boat 231 which didn't get to blast off until going on 9am. I had about 5 spots marked to start at and of course there was at least one on every spot and two on most lol.

My little boat doesn't like 3 men, live well full of water and a tank full of gas. Couldn't get it up on plane without getting an over temp warning. Had to get one of the boys to sit up on the bow until it got on plane... so I didn't want to run very far like that so we stayed up river and struggled all day. One of my guys is a lineman on the football team. Big boy.

We caught fish just not enough big ones.

Greg

We were boat 272 so I was in the same situation. Didn't make a cast until 930. That was after a 30 minute run south.

Kaleb and Davey would both like to thank Shane from Towboat USA for his amazing support. It pays to have Towboat!!!!! They both qualified for the national championship with there finish. We are heading to KY in June!

I hope what you saw were courteous anglers moving out of the way for random High School TX teams and not something worked out to get an unfair advantage. I want to believe that the parents and/or coaches would stress sportsmanship over cheating to win. Is there really a parent that would teach his kid to cheat? To do so, is a vote of no confidence in their ability. D60, you may be right but really hope not

Hole sitting wouldn't suprise me after some of the stuff we saw Saturday.
We started out about 9 on an offshore spot with noone around, boated a few bass and all of a sudden we were the most popular people on the water. One boat shut down from wide open when he saw a bent rod and had the kids start throwing crank baits directly at our boat and proceeded to try every which way to root us off the spot. I had to stop several casts short or we would have caught each other. Had it been adults and not high school kids I would of dropped a half ounce swimbait on their deck.
The worst part was they caught 1 fish on the cranks while we boated 25-30 on shaky heads and they never stopped throwing the cranks.
2 more boats came in and stayed an acceptable distance away then here come another. They came in wide open, shut down in the middle of everyone, took back off cutting hard so he made the biggest waves possible, then flipped us off when I put my hands in the air.
We moved around to a few other places just staying out of the way and saw boats running up and shutting down on other boats everywhere.

I have an air horn in the boat for this very reason. Submerge and let out a blast. Bye bye fishy.

I thought boating bass after bass right in their faces was much more satisfying than bye bye fishy. It's a very small spot they stack up in and it your boat isn't in the right spot and you're not casting on the right angle you'll not get bit

I was very surprised at how well Dayton handled the traffic on Saturday. I honestly expected to be a miserable wait getting in and out of the water, it was faster than most CBA's I have fished. Good job to everyone involved.

Dayton does an outstanding job with large events. Every time I fish a tournament there is a class act! I agree with Derek81 great job Dayton!

Dayton has a good system and if everyone keeps moving and is ready to back in it doea not atke long at all to load and unload. Still traffic at the 27 red lights is a little hassle but better than other events i've been to.
