Took off to the lake with my father this evening around 7pm. Launched out of dayton boat dock and fished the weeds there in Richland then headed out to the river and to the right and fished the flat over there. I was catching them on a SPRO Bronzeye frog fished over the tops of the matted weeds. My father was following up with a Zoom 10" worm. We managed about 15 between the both of us. Nothing huge, most 1-2lbs.

What do you think of the Spro frog? Is that the one designed by Rojas? I'm itching to get back on the Hiwassee and enjoy a good frog bite.

Yeah its the one designed by Rojas. This is the best topwater frog out there IMO. Comes standard with a Gamakatsu frog hook and its a sleek design. The other day I was trying one of these and had a fish bust the water on it and when I set the hook, the line snapped. Must of had a nick in the line. It was the only Spro I had. I had a Boze Sumo frog that I tied on and fish would blow up on it and just wouldnt get hooked. I dont know if it being more bulkier than the Spro made it harder for them to latch onto it or if the hook wasnt sharp enough or what but today I took my new Spros out and didnt miss a fish on it. Im sold on them. My favorite color is the natural red. I also got a natural green but havent thrown it yet.

I just ordered one of the black ones. (I believe it is called Midnight Walker) from Cabela's. I will let you guys know how they work for me.

I checked before ordering and Soddy Custom and Fish-N-Fun DO NOT have them in stock.

Hey there RRB32 you said "Matted grass"????emoScratch When I think of matted grass I think of grass that has topped out and is on the surface laid over and thick. Is that what you mean? I never knew there was that kind of grass on the chick anywhere. I have seen it at Nick and G but not here. How much grass we talking about?emoSmile Jmax

Jason, I ordered them online. Yes I was using mono when that bass snapped my line. I didnt have my heavy rod with me that day, I was throwing it on 12lb mono. Yesterday I was throwing it on a 7ft H rod with 25lb mono.

Jmax, It was the topped out on the surface with large slender leaves. A lot of places it was real thick on the surface but it didnt extend downwards, just on the surface. I just fished the frog over top of it and they would hit it just as it left the grass.

I have not seen it but i am guessing it is mostly matted duck weed and star grass. I saw a bunch of that stuff growing upriver a few weeks ago, but i may be wrong, i hope its hydrilla. hey, i have an idea, at the CFF event on guntersville, after we let the fish go lets fill our boats with milfoil and hydrilla and dump it in the chick!emoThumbsup JK! I think the best thing for the growth of the grass is a long-term drought that will keep the water clear. When the grass exploded in the late 80's early 90's we were in the middle of a five year drought. maybe mother nature is cycling back to that condition.
