I'm an 18 year old bass fisherman. Most folks on the board have alot more experience than I will ever hope to have. Any help on where the smallies might be on woods resivior would really help! I'll take largemouth help too!

My mom and dad live nearby and I wanted to fish this weekend.

Thanks to everyone who can help me

Ed

This weekend is going to be major crowded on Woods. Tri-Lakes has a tourney there 40-50 boats. Woods is not a big lake, and fishes smaller.

I would fish the upper end if it were me. With the warm weather it may pay off. Jail Island, Starns Cabin, all those shallow sloughs. Try a spinnerbait.

Do you have a map of the lake? If not you can go to www.topozone.com and look at a map that has fair detail. If you look at the map for a while you can get an idea where fish would potentially stack up this time of the year. The places that I would check out first are the mainlake areas where the river channel comes up close to the shoreline and just looking at the map quickly you can easily find some of those. Where the channel hits the shore and where it goes away from the shore is where I would look first. There should be an eddie there and the fish could stack up there year round. If there is a spot like that that is not too far from a slough or two where the smallies might spawn all the better and if the slough pointed towards the north all the better as that water would warm up first. I would expect cool water temps so a suspending jerkbait in the 8-10 foot depth range would be good but a jig and pig, or worm could be fished even deeper than that. Those would be my initial places to check out if it were me. I would expect that it is a deep clear lake and if you were targeting largemouths or you were a better shallow water fisherman then the upper end would be the place to start, more color in the water and less depth. If you fish it in the near future the warmest water will be from the runoff from the warm rains and the backs of the coves and creeks may be your best bet to find active fish. If you have a map that shows the underwater springs in the reservior that is where the warmest water will be, approx. 54 degrees and it should be the warmest for the next 3-4 weeks I would expect unless we really get some good warm rains. Good luck and let us know how you do.
