I have gone out with Drum King several times and his boat is as smooth as silk on the water. He has a Bass Tracker. It is a modle built in 2000's I think. He said that it has a new designed hull. I was wondering, how do guys rate the smoothness of your boats (Bass Tracker) on the open water? What kind of hull do you recomend for smoothness on the open water?

Deep-V smoothest, Semi-V next, flat bottom - take your dentures out before you ride.

Of course depth/angle varies on semi-v's... it would take a math major who can calculate said depth/angle to tell you which is best. Of course it's also a relationship of how well matched motor mount and trim are on boat. A well-matched motor mount & trim gets bow out of water higher... less boat surface friction for more speed, and less bow slamming into waves. But overdo it and that's when bow porpoises (bounces up & down).

I get a lot of compliments on the boat ride from clients in my G3 1756 w/60 Yamaha (semi-v). Based on that, I guess it's good. I wish I got more speed but you can't have everything.

My 2001 Bass Tracker pro team 175 with 50hp is very smooth. Only time i have rough ride is when i'm hitting large waves, and thats my fault cause i like to hit them. I can't speak bout other brands except for a G3 i've been in of same type boat and i can't find no diff.

The downside of trackers (and upside of many g3 boats) is that trackers don't have a delta pad. However, the front of the bow on a tracker semi-v is sharper than a g3 and may plow waves better.

Engine power helps, I think. But I also think a greater length of delta pad, and greater distance between pad and engine (as provided by a jackplate) helps some too. I've found that the boat I use (a G3 Hp 170) is fine in a chop, but put it in long-wavelength rollers, like after a barge comes through, and you will have problems. The wavelengths are too long for it to just skim crest to crest, even running flat-out. I just have to trim down and plow water. I suspect a longer boat or an 8 inch setback jackplate would help.

The new Trackers like DK's boat ride pretty good for a semi v. The older Trackers will hit pretty hard. If you want to really appreciate a smooth riding boat let me take you for a ride in my G3 or ride in Dhauns. Our hulls are just alike and they will literally pound your guts out in a good chop. One ride in these G3 boats and you will greatly appreciate a v or semi v hull. I found out AFTER I bought mine that jon boats with 90 hp motors are just not designed for rough water. If you are looking for ride the new Trackers with hulls like Drumking has are pretty good. Stay away from their jons though.

Well put cheez! I love my boat and its great in the river below the dam and getting shallow but its a horrible ride in any chop.

I bought a tracker awhile back to pre-fish in. Too much gas to pull the big rig to the lake all the time. Personally think that the tracker is well worth the money. Smooth enough for a 17ft boat and very fishable.

I was pleasantly surprised at the ride in my Tracker Pro 175. It is very smooth in almost any water. I will admit that DK's boat rides better because of the v design, where mine is flat. It will get close to 30 mph in the water with a 50 hp and the best thing is the gas economy. Lots of weight difference between it and a glass boat.
