Just to catch up, I thought I would let some folks know how it is where I am here in Melbourne.
Things are fine and the weather has been a good pay-off this year.
They have set more warm records again with a few cold days mixed in.
About a dozen real cool days this year.
I have fished, Okeechobee, Jackson, Washington,Turkey, Stick Marsh, Blue Cypress marsh, and lake, St. John's and c-54 canal along with other bank shots as well.
Fishing has been slow and the spawn has been retarted from the norm. We are finishing off the spawn now, but in the past the spawn would be in stage 2 right now.
The Florida Solution for anything aquatic has been "Spray baby, spray".
They spray everything from ditches to canals to whole lakes and this year they did it right on top off the spawning season.
They answer to nobody and what they do looks fairly reckless.
The trucks drive by water with sprayers running thick purplish fluids and other concoctions pouring by the gallons into the lakes.
There are so many lakes down in this area so it is like a parade some days.
As you can guess, the fishing has been slow.
Most days you can get around 20 or so before noon, but lately I have had 2 skunks and that is not typical for here.
The crappie have been hurt the most. I have caught some crappie and all have been bigguns, but no numbers to brag about.
The bass have only recently been getting bigger, but for 2 months it has mostly been little bucks setting up beds.
The females over 5 lbs have been more rare than I like, but we have had some memorable trips with egg-loaded females running up to 7 lbs.
So that is about it,...oh did I forget about the Grindles, Cotton Fish, Scaly Cats, Mudfish, or the Bowfin?
No There are plenty and when there are this many, sometimes you get a few.
The only pic I got of one this year is 1/2 of an 8 lber.
They fight and fight and bend and tear up your bass gear.
Well a few more weeks here and if it gets warm enough we will be back and ready for the local bass and crappie in the Chattanooga area again.
It is like I live in 2 countries sometimes. Well it is another nice day to go tomorrow and my bride wants to go, so I hope we can get lucky.
The best pattern for me has been good 'ol Trokars hiding in BPS Stikos. Junebug, red shad, and purple with black flake have been the favorite flavors for those.
The temps have been down to 54, but commonly 60+ everywhere I go.
Well that's the story from me for now
Talk amongst yourselves.
We are looking forward to seeing and fishing with good friends when we get back to East Ridge.
