BassERT, Lake Jackson, Canal C-54 Lake Washington Florida, Bass and Crappie, December thru January
I figgered it was time to share a little on fishing here so some folks will be up to date an my exploits emoLaugh

I have been fishing very little here because mostly of the wind emoBang

Blowing like stink and the lakes are flat and open so it makes it tough. Sometimes I can get to protected water (C-54) depending on the direction.

The canal is a fun place to fish because of the TIGHT launching area and the constant line of fishy places to work on.

Around the bridges I was catching large 13-14 in. crappie on BGs In the stained water down here they all look so black!

The bass were slow and slow to bed with the record warm temps that was happening when I got here, and still going on --- NO haters emoEnforce

I went with a good friend and guide to Lake Jackson 1 hour and 40 minutes away through the fog all the way emoDoh

He had netted about 30 wild golden shiners and I used purple smoke 5 3/8 stickos with 5/0 Trokar worm hooks with my bait caster rig 12 Flurocarbon.

We had about 13 bass averaged at 5-6 lbs when the wind picked up and I drove the TM into a weed bed to hold the boat in place.

Charlie had brought a spare rig with him and we decided to use up the shiners together. He didn't catch another fish as I threw the first one out and 15 seconds later I had a 6.5 coming to the boat/ And this continued steadily to the last of the shiners, and it was 11:30 AM so we went home with sore arms. We had caught 35-45 bass (we quit counting as the action picked up so fast and I didn't get pics because we had some representative of the fish we were catching and it seemed redundant and time-wasting. We just laughed a lot and Charlie had a ball watching me get excited by the slamming of very nice quality fish. He didn't have time as he was rigging me for the shiners all the time. One of the weird things was that the canal water flow control that drains to Lake Kissimmee was stuck open with weeds. The water was about 3 feet deep and the weeds kept me from being able to run and we had to clear the motor pisser with a wire about 3 times. FWC agent Tina told us they had a crane crew working on clearing it to it's normal 5 to 6 foot level.

I had been fishing one of my fav spots which is on the marl washboard road to the Stick Marsh the Canal C-54.

I took Susan a week ago last Sunday and we had our first skunk in two years. We still had a beautiful day and the Nature show we were in was going strong, so we didn't have hurt feelings over it. But she wanted to try again. I tried to change her mind because the State was spraying heavily and the bite was off, but we went any way. We caught a few bass and they were in the 3 average with a 4 1/2, but the fun was when she caught a nice'un on her 4lb crappie rig. emoWorthy

I have had only small fish in my closest to home Lake Washington ten minutes down the road, but I decided last week to try my old "milk run" from last year where my average fish was 3lb the whole time I was here. 2 hours of fishing where once were weeds, but now were bare sticks and occassional pencil grass, sawgrass, Kissimmee grass and the surviving hyacinth was frustrating so I hit my marks and just threw through the few remnants of the weed I saw last year. Finally I get my first fish-5lbs.

I wind drifted to the next large sparse patch of maidencane and a 4 1/2. Than a 4 and back to over 4 again for the next 3 fish. I felt great finally about Lake W and then I got a couple little males at 2 and less and called it a day to get my haircut.

It will be a fun season this year and when I got some news I will inflict it with another report.

I have pics of fish and the canal in no particular order coming up.

To all my friends and CFFers there I miss you guys; stay warm and stay safe on the water

Thanks for reading
