Second time on Turkey this year after surveying yesterday.
No pics from yesterday had 15 bass with largest being 20 inches.
Red shad stickos 6" size was the best, but I managed a couple on junebug and x-10 blueback.
As I was walking back to my truck yesterday, Lou from Chicago asked if I would guide him the next day as he was fishing alone.
I agreed and we met at the boat at 6:30 AM.
They have improved the donated rigged loaner boats from Bass Pro Shops' grizzlies and the trolling motors with digital 55 lb hand trollers and way better batteries.
Charly Whittle is the operator there now and is the best guy for the job that they have ever had!
He takes great care of the equipment and gear and all anyone has to do is get in and go.
So we went immediately went to a brush pile near the launch and my client Lou hooked up on his first bass of the day. A small one but they fight like bigguns'.
We went to another of my favorite spots and Lou hooks up again with a better fish on this plastic friendly lake.
He insisted on staying so we didn't move and stayed longer than we should.
I pulled rank and we moved to the far side of the 335 acre lake and the fish completely shut down.
After some sightseeing, we felt the southerly wind pick up and I knew we could do better at my wife's favorite spot where there are deep pads are.
We dodged a resident gator, who was showing off for the ladies ( it is springtime and he was gaping ).
I finally caught a couple fish on the sticko and switched to red shad.
That was the ticket!
After I had three large fish, 22" 19" and 21", Lou figures I should give him a couple worms and he hooked up with his 10lb braid rigged no leader wide gap #4 and started a fun run of his own.
He caught quite a few of his biggest bass to date and was grinning from ear to ear.
It made my day and all I did for an hour was to position him and direct some of his casting to likely spots.
Lou is 76 years old and doesn't have a stomach, a quadruple bypass and other various problems that come from age and worry as a business owner, but he said he had a great trip and it was one of his best fishing days in Florida.
This was his last day down in Florida and now he is traveling back to the Windy City today.
The only complaint was I only got 2 pics and they were his smallest fish emoLaugh
He took a few of me and mine were larger, so my evil plan worked emoBigsmile
We logged 18 bass, missed about 6 good hits and had great fellowship.
Couldn't beat this day with a stick!! emoPoke
After exchanging phone numbers and addresses in the parking lot, we went our separate ways.
What fun to fish with strangers and then at the end feel as if we have known them all our lives.
It just reinforces that fishing can exemplify being in a brotherhood emoAngler emoGrouphug
Here are some pics
See you all soon in the first week in May when we return! emoSun
