hey guys ,what are the best cranking and trolling batteries yall know of? im gonna be buying some and have never had much luck with the ones ive bought. id rather spend a little more $ and be dependable than to short cut it

No shortage on opinions on this topic. I like the Interstates myself. I think I'm going to have to get 2 also and thats what I'll get.

I've got the wallyworld brand, bought them back in the spring, got em hooked up with an onboard charger and haven't had a problem with them yet.

I would stay away from the everystart brand name if you do a lot of fishing. They use to be very good batteries but over the last few years they are not holding up for me for the length of the warrenty. I switched over to the Wally World Maxx brand and they are holding up very well.emoThumbsup You might spend a little more but in the long run I feel it is worth it.emoToast Jmax

Everstart and Interstate are the two batteries that I have had to return within the first year. Everstart in the past has always failed me. The best batteries I have found, and the dollar amount spent on them is amazingly low, are the marine batteries at Costco. Not one in Chatt, but worth the drive to Huntsville. A lot like Sam's club, but a step up in quality of merchandise. I've had four and they all still work. Even one that I bought there four years ago.

Interstate first choice and Everstart Maxx second for me. Stay away from Optima. They are good but not twice as good as the others and they cost more than twice as much. Whatever you get keep it on an onboard charger s soon as you are done fishing and you will double the life of the battery.

I would agree with cheez here on the optimas. I had three for 18or 24 months (what ever the warranty was) and they all went bad!emoBang I thought if you pay more $ I wouldn't have to deal with problems. but that was not the case. I went to ac delco voyager for about $100 ea. had some years ago and had great results. ended up putting the last optima red top cranking in my van. Nothing but delcos in the boat.
good luck!

I agree with the delco voyagers, I've got interstates in my new boat, but I'll probly replace them with delcos when it's time to change them.

i have everstart batteries, this will be the 3rd year on my trolling batteries.i fish 8-10 hour trips on the weekend and they still have plenty of power at the end of the day.but i also keep them on a charger after every trip, that is very key on battery life.i had interstate batteries before and they only lasted about 1.5 years.

I've got Delco Voyager and Wal-mart Maxx series. Both brands have been trouble free. I like knowing that I can return the Wally World batteries 24/7, should I have to.

As has been said, proper maintenance is the key and will maximize battery life.

I will throw in my two cents on this one, since I have been going through a set of trolling batteries every year until this year. I bought some East Penn/Deka AGM batteries and have been MORE than satisfied with the runtime and shelf life.

They are a little bit more expensive, but any AGM battery is the way to go for the price. There are a couple of resellers in Chattanooga if you go that route!

AC Delco Voyeger is all that I ever use I have allways had good luck with them I do have a friend who has the Optima Battiers He Likes them and they seem to hold a charge real well but they are very expesive

Stick with what works....if it aint broke don't fix it.

I used Interstates for years. When I got the G3 it came with Trojans. I had to get 1 replaced within a year. I have had the other 1 for 2 years. I let them get low on water and they just died suddenly when BBass and Wetwillie was with me last. We were about done for the day anyway though. I refilled them, supercharged them, took it out by myself and they did ok. But I could tell they were not what they used to be. The onboard charger still has 3 bars after I charge them. I'm going out today to see how they do. If they are still feeling " not right " I may have to spring for new ones. I have heard a few people say that the Interstates just aint what they use to be. I cant remember anybody saying anything bad about the Delcos. The thought of WalMart being open 24/7 is tempting too though. I may go that route. What is the warantee period on them?

ac delco!!!! """no other battery gets on board my boat!!""" Have used them for years and they last about 4 years running them hard, have a three bank onboard charger and keep them hot all year and have never failed me yet!! reson priced as well

hey thanks for all the info. not to sound stupid but where would i get a onboard charger and ho would it be wired up and do you leave it powered 24/7 when not fishing?
