I left the power on and ran my cranking battery down and did not get it fully charged before t went out last time and it went dead so I strapped it to one of the trolling batteries and made it through the day after getting home and trying to charge it with my on board charger after several hours says it will not charge so I try another charger and get the same thing so I take it to get it checked and every thing checks good at the parts store shows 1000 CCA and 12.5 volts so I bring it home hook it back to my charger and get the same thing it is an optima blue top about two years old any thoughts ????

I have had my charger refuse to charge a battery that was dead, but after giving it some charge with another battery it did just fine. It could be that the battery is just too low on voltage for your charger to recognize it. Try hooking it to another battery until it gets some charge from it and then try. Alternatively, you could leave them hooked together and charge both.

Agree with Eric. Put it on a cheap dumb charger. The smart chargers are very finicky and will balk on a low battery. If it charges and the onboard accepts it again, you're good. If it charges but still acts up on the onboard, get ready to go shopping. The smart charger sees something the in-store battery tests don't/can't. You may be able to use a rejected battery for awhile but it's days are numbered. If your motor alternator keeps it charged enough to start your boat and run electronics, all the onboard did was keep it topped off. If all connections are clean, watch for HDS/Bird to act up when starting the big motor. If the unit restarts during motor cranking, it's time and you're pushing your luck

well I tried it out Saturday the battery made it through the day ( I fished a tournament out of watts bar dam) but by the end of the day it was sluggish so I guess I will replace it this week. and at least for me the fishing was Very tough water temp about 85 only cought a few in about 25 foot

I've had good luck with Duralast batteries. I have learned not to get the combo batteries cranking/trolling dual purpose because they will not last as long as single purpose battery will.

Sorry I got this on the wrong post. Not sure how but must have hit the wrong spot. Disregard, disregard.
