I finally got my sleeping done and it was really was 4:00 in the morning. So, on the spur of the moment, I went fishing this morning. Since 4AM is not usually a good time to be calling around looking for a fishing bud, I went alone. I started fishing about 6:00.
One turbine was running this morning so I started out throwing a deep little N in the current. I managed only a 2 lb Channel cat. A couple of guys were throwing Pop'R's from the piers and catching a few small Stripers. I tried a Super Spook for a while with no success. One of the guys held up about a 6-8 lb'er and called it 20 lb. But, I've been known the have the "BigEye" before myself.
I wanted to experiment with a tube on a slider head so I stuck with that the rest of the morning. I was using a Berkely Power Tube in Green Pumpkin. The Power Tube has a solid head which makes it ideal to fish on a slider head.
I picked up my first bass on the end of the wing wall, then went down the Chattanooga State side of the bank.
I caught 8 more fish before I quit about 10:30. No keepers. The slider head worked beautifully. I only had to go in to the bank twice to get unhung and it can loose as soon as I got over it. I caught all 9 fish on the same tube and it still looked in good shape. I had an excellent hookup rate. I don't recall but a couple of missed bites. (Probably Bream) The slider heads I have are in 1/4 & 1/8 weights. After I bought them (ordered from BPS) I found that Gamakatsu has a style with a bullet head that some may prefer.
In case you are wondering, I really like to fish Craws, tubes, and finesse worm on jigs heads, rather that texas-rigged. It seems I don't get hung up nearly as much.
