We got there about 1 hour before light, started catching good Crappie pretty quick. When it became daylight they just turned off. We caught a few more while Sauger fishing. No keeper Sauger, biggest 14". We had 12-14 good slabs, I didnt count them and my brother took them home with him. Also caught several white bass, a pretty good cat, gills, drum, and even a yellow perch. The weather didnt get ugly till time for me to go, wish I could have stayed to see if the good Sauger came out to play about dark with the rain and wind. It was hailing on us right before we left. We were catching them anywhere from 6 foot to the bottom in the dead lock, they were more scattered than schooled, on shiners. JerDog, good to see you again. How did you guys do?

We ended up with 5 sauger (no keepers) and a slab crappie...Netted 15 huge threadfins and drifted with them for a while below the dam with no takers...The generators were supposed to kick on at 7am Central, but as of 10:30 they had not...would of been nice to hook up on some stripers.

Exactly how are ya'll catching crappie down there? I fished hard most of the day on the 27th. I caught everything but a crappie.emoScratch emoScratch

Richard, we are using small shiners. On christmas eve they were schooled up real good around the back left corner of the dead lock, right around a big floating platform. I was just dropping a small shiner (3" or so), right next to the platform, all around it, 4-7 feet or so down. Yesterday they were scattered more but still mostly in the back within 10-15 feet from the platform and some were about 4-5 feet deep and some on the bottom. The water was down about 3 feet so the deepest in there was around 17 feet. They were sluggish and not feeding very well. I have been watching people fishing in there, everybody is fishing on the bottom for the Sauger and the Crappie are mostly unnoticed, since most of them are suspended most of the time. I started to go about midnight and wish I had. I'm going to do that soon, might find the Sauger and the Crappie feeding at night. After it started getting light yesterday morning the Crappie quit biting.
