Went down there for the sauger. I was there all day, never caught any sauger and nobody else had that I talked to. The fun thing about tailwaters though is you will always catch some kind of fish. I caught lots of cat fish, drum, stripe, bass, shell crackers and brought home 6 nice crappie and a 15 inch spot for supper. No sauger yet.

Oh, I forgot, good to meet you JerDog. Did you catch any fish? I tried for the stripers just before dark but no bites.

It looked like a couple great days to be on the water this weekend. I almost went Saturday but my kids wanted to get a tree instead...We may try off the bank for a bit today if I can get them off the computer.

flip1up, were you using live bait or artificials below Nickajack?

Yes, good to meet you too flip1up...had a couple of hours with my brother before we headed off to Nashville before the hockey game....we trolled the boils and only picked up a skipjack...Threw about everything we had in the tackle box at them...saw several guys fishing for sauger or white bass from the bank below the pier and they didn't catch anything either..We trolled the bay and picked up a couple of small white bass, but nothing like what is in there come January. Did you catch those crappie all in the bay?

i did get to go to Bass Pro Shops on Saturday in Nasville..Picked up some Hoppys or Happys or something like that Sauger Jig...Very Heavy head....Do you catch most of your sauger in the bay or in the tail waters? If you catch them in the tail waters, are they in the real swift water or more slack water?

I caught 3 crappies in the "dead lock" ( next to the lock, looks like a lock too), 1 next to the last flood gate on the left and 3 more down river a couple hundred yards on the left at the barge tie downs, had to put back 3-4 that were short. I usually catch the sauger in the dead lock. I was using minnows. There are a few other places down river a little that you can get sauger and if or when I start getting into them I'll give you guys some good spots. I caught cat fish till I was tired of them Friday morning in the last concrete hole on the left of the last flood gate on the left. They were taking minnows and small shiners as quick as you got them on the bottom. I hear that they catch alot of the bigger sauger from the short wing wall, throwing to the edge of the current, but when I have my boat out there that spot is always taken. I never have fished the boils or strong current for sauger.
