Well I bent my trolling shaft putting the boat up the other day... It's not bent bad but I don't have full range of motion and it's tough to turn. Can it be bent back? It's a motor guide pro 46 only 6 months old.

I fixed mine a couple years ago.
I'll try to explain it.
With the motor in the stowed position and the bend facing down, I made basically a "C" out of 3- 2x4s. The "c" was rotated 90 degrees clockwise so you have the end of the bottom of the C on the motor and the end of the top of the C just under the head (the other end of the shaft)
With me?
On the end that was on the motor I added a 8 in pc. to even out the pressure on the motor-basically a"T". on the other end I cut a "V" to help the 2x4 stay on the shaft.
I have a garage with an open ceiling so I raised the bow until the hozontal part of the "C" was against a rafter and strapped a come-along around both, the rafter and the "C"
I put a strap around the sharpest part of the bend and hooked the come-along to it.
Crank away until it's staight, I found I had to go a little past strajght because it bows back a little.
Hope that helps, if not and you get around Dade County-pm me.

I've done this more than once emoBang I did, however, find a great way to fix it with minimal effort and very little cost. Just dial 423.336.5438. This number is for John Swallows at ETM Trolling motor repair. He does great work for a reasonable price. Just leave him a message and he'll get back to you. It was quite a drive for me since I live in LaFayette but was well worth it.

It's the outer tube that houses the shaft. Right under where the shaft is clamped to the main body. Also the cable is broke on the very end at the gear pinion that slides back and forth Looks like it could be re connected though?

So far no luck getting ahold of John. I'd like this thing fixed pretty soon, any other suggestions?

he may be traveling for the Holiday. Not sure who else works on them. If it's the outer tube, I assume that piece will have to be replaced in order for it to turn properly.

Yeah it will need replaced and it looks like there are some small rivets that hold it to the head. The piece only retails for 25 bucks so I'm wondering if he'll have one laying around that he could install cheaper? I assume he has lots of spare parts around and I also assume he's cheaper than a dealership :)

Definitely cheaper than a dealership and he has tons of TMs at his place. But I'd assume he'll still have to order one for you, just to be sure it works properly.
John's a great guy and won't do you wrong.

I fixed one of mine once. Put it in the stowed position with the bend up. I put a block under the shaft just below the control head and jumped on the shaft until it was straight and would turn correctly. Worked perfectly. I did this in the garage so I had something to hold onto while I jumped. You might try this and get back onto the water sooner. I figured "what can it hurt?" It already didn't work and would have to be repaired anyway. Never did have any more trouble out of it!
