I was hoping to get a few ideas about using another brand of braided line for pitching and flipping.

REMINDER........ I fish from the bank 98% of the time.

I was using 20 lb Spiderwire.... notice I said WAS!!!!! This afternoon was the last straw so I took every bit of it off my reel. The crap broke 3 times on me today and one time it was with a solid 3 lb or better bass on. emoBang

I even striped off 6 feet on line and retied and checked my guides for cracks / nicks. Nothing there so I felt confident and pitched into the brush and wham.... the 3 lber hit, I set the hook and the line broke about 2 ft above my lure. emoBadLanguage emoHoppingmad emoDoh

Soooo please do NOT recommend Spiderwire; as I refuse to ever buy it again and I will upgrade to 30 or 40 lb - most likely will be buying 40 lb braid. emoApplause

Would I be better off with mono? BUT!!!!! I want the power to drag fish out of the thick stuff to the bank. A tougher job than hauling a fish out of the cover into the open water and then into the boat.

Thanks for the advice.

I also use Power Pro and highly recomend it. I use the 65# though. Here is a tip that will help you out, braid has no stretch like mono does, so if you set the hook to hard something WILL give either your line, your rod or hopfully the fish. On short hook sets loosen your drag so it will slip a little then you can crank it back up if you get a big fish on. Good luck.

I don't use braid anymore for flipping grass. I throw 25 lb flouro with no issues. Braid is over rated. 20 lb braid is so thin that its easy to break regardless of the rating.

Powerpro is good but if you want something a little cheeper but is still in the SPECTRA family I use Shakespear UGLY BRAID.It is hard to find around here is the problem.

I use 20lb Seaguar Invizix (sp) for all of my worm and jig fishing. It is strong enough to pull your boat around when you are hung. But even the best line can get nicks and break easily, especially when flipping or fishing shell beds.

Thanks for the great info guys.....

I've heard some good things about Power Pro and will be putting 30# on my reel.

I do have a rod that's pretty much made for my style of flipping/pitching with braid. (It's not a flipping rod but works great till I can purchase one)

It has plenty of backbone but a fast flexible tip so there is some give to the hookset. I'll ease up some on the drag so it gives a bit too.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

I will be purchasing power pro line soon. I had already passed Fish Tales and headed to the bridge on Hwy 58 when I decided to buy it today instead of waiting so I stopped in at the Hiawasee Tackle Store today and they don't carry it.

I got the urge to fish my fav brush piles and such after crappie fishing....... so I put on some 20 lb easy cast mono to use till I get the p-pro braid. It worked much better than I anticipated.

It held up good against a 2 1/2 lb bass that was up under some heavy submerged limbs. Hauled it out of the limbs and the line moved the limbs at the same time. Caught 3 keeper bass using the 20 lb with very little noticeable line damage - just a very, very small nick or two.

This is just a temporary fix..... I will go back to braid and it will be power pro!!!!!!!!!!!!!
