For next season I want to go on an Elk hunt. I would like to shoot a cow and a bull and take care of my meat needs for the entire year plus have a good time. Do any of yall know of a place near Chatt and I mean within a reasonable driving distance that does Elk hunts for a somewhat reasonable price?

If you bow hunt you can buy a tag across the counter in Colorado. It's a hell of a lot longer than 8 hour drive though.

Seriously I know Kentucky has a pretty good elk population. You might google up a KY hunting board and search there.

I've been putting in for 5 years for preference points in Utah to try and secure a tag in a certain area. Hopefully 2 more years and I can go.

My dad went on a cow hunt in Colorado and I brought back 100lbs of meat from Christmas. Man I love it, it's as good if not better than my venison. I figure if I could find a place to go shoot a few elk for the same price as my deer lease I might just do it instead.

I know the wilderness hunting lodge is high fence. U can drive by there an see them standing on the side of the roa all day long they act more like cows than wild animals

I would say most if not all places in TN will be high fenced if it's private land Elk hunting. Otherwise you have to try to get one of the five public land tags.

Correct. Is the meat off of a cow elk worth $1,750.00?

Why would you pay the money for a high fence hunt?

My tag in Utah (when I get one) is $450. I can camp on public land for free out there. We will have gas, food and ice to buy.

If you want a hunting trip try that. If you like fishing in a trout pond you might like put and shoot trophy shooting, but it ain't hunting

I never said I was looking for a high fence hunt. I said I was looking for somewhere within 8 hours drive if possible.

Well you will have to drive at least 8 hours if you are looking for a fair chase elk hunt, unless you draw a tag in TN or KY. Ive looked into elk hunts, and a guided fair-chase hunt is gonna cost thousands. Best bet is to look into some of the public land in western states. Good luck

Its not really that bad going out west, license was around five hundred, all the hunts ive been on have been in Utah and Idaho and all self guided and have brought a lot of meat back thru the years, ive seen the outfitters and they do a good job with people but its not for me as long as my legs are working, first time I went I got a antlerless elk and you really should research what to take with you, I had friends out there that helped me not make as many mistakes, but it is a lot of work getting meat out.

I would apply in kentucky, not sure the odds of drawing a tag but several years ago I applied it cost $25 for the application and $350 for the tag if you get drawed. Granted that was 7 years ago

I have flown to Colorado many times.. it isn't that expensive... You can fly from Knoxville for less than $400 a lot of the time. I bet you could get a trip together for less than $1700.00

I have some family in Montana that has property I can hunt but I'm trying to figure out how to get the meat home if I go kill an bull elk.
