Where are some good places around Wolftever to purchase shiners and other live bait. I just recently got back into fishing and bought a boat. Been going some but not having much luck. I do have a GPS/Graph and can find the fish, just cant seem to catch them? I've tried several different things and have spent way to much on tackle. Want to start catching some. I see all the posts on here where most are catching on shiners and such. Thought I would try that for a change. Thanks and look forward to being part of the board and community here.

Thanks,
Daren

Welcome to CFF Daren12. Sounds like you are in the same boat as many of us on not loading up on the fish as much as we would like. Keep reading the fishing reports for great tips on when, where and with what works.

South on 58 hwy you can stop in at Sportsmans Bait and Tackle. I haven't been in there in a while and not totally up on their stock.

Thanks. Yes I haven't fished very much since my teenage days. Im now 37 and now have some time to relax and fish a little more and not work as much. I feel kinda stupid about fishing now. When I was young I could catch fish anytime and now so much has changed since then I'm just not up on all the techniques. I have been watching the boards and all the reports, I just keep trying. Gets frustrating sometimes, but its really nice just to get out on the water and relax and hope the big one bites. Hope to see some of you guys out there and maybe pick up a tip or two. I have a 2000 Nitro 750 burgundy and grey with a 115 mercury, if you see me give me a shout. Thanks again.

Hey dude .. welcome to the forum .. since its been so long .. you should fish with some of us .. either back seat in one of our boats .. or back seat in yours.
I spent couple yrs learning the lake, now can find Bass every time out .. not always big ones but still bass .. using bait may or may not put fish in your boat .. you still have to find active fish. Thats the biggest issue of fishing anywhere .. try the river below the dam, you catch more numbers, but quality ( over 3lb ) fish you will find more in lake.
You mentioned all the new technics .. old ones still just as good, and sometimes better.. fish get conditioned to new stuff quick, sometimes going back to basics will put more and bigger fish in da boat. Plastic worms texas rig, spinner bait, and old faithful rappala minnow baits, keep plugging away .. and absorb as much as you can from here and one day the bass will just start jumpin in your boat

Hamilton's first because they are fine folks and secondly because they are close to Wolftever. They are also about the only Mom & Pop tackle shop left in the area.

Hamilton's has supported CFF in the past with donations to some of our events. If I'm getting bait on 58 that's where I go.

If I'm going Hixson Pike on the other side of the river I stop at Blaylock's right past Chester Frost entrance. They are very nice folks and they have big shiners.
