I need to replace my trolling motor batteries. I haveused AC Delco batteries (voyager M30HMF)in the past butI understand that they have changed this battery and it is no longer a sealed battery. The two I need to replace have lasted4 1/2 years of heavy use. Anybody have anyexperiencewith the new Voyagers or have suggestions onquality deep cycle batteries for a 74lb 24 volt trolling motor?

Yellow Everstarts, can be replaced 24/7 just about anywhere in the world. Had a 15 min run out during a tournament last year made it back in 7 and a half, but I made it back....

I have been using the Cabela's AGM's for a little over a year now and I highy recommend them. Expensive but strong. Die Hard platinums are good too.

I'm like you in finding the AC/Delco Voyager batteries to be very good. Mine are still running strong. I notice they sell them at KMart now which is good for being able to find one, but I haven't tried the new ones yet. I'd be interested in knowing if they are still a good battery.

hippi97 - 2/24/2010 12:59 PM I have had good luck with the walmart marine batterys

same here and cant beat the price and warranty probably not as good as some of the higher dollar ones but my 2 have done well on my TM which is 74 lb thrust 24 volt

My Dad and I have had some of those big Marine Delco's for up to 4 / 7 years! I'm on two Optimax blues on my trolling motor right now that are one year old so the jury's still out, but so far, I like them. I had 5 Interstate's previously that all were swapped out by the dealer. Each one would be last about 18 mos. / 2 years for me, so I went to the optimax to give them a try.

I just replaced two ac/delco's the m 30 class due to they were only holding a charge for 8-10 hours of fishing. they were both 45 months old. they would stay charged for two days of fishing last year. I was told by Ken Smith auto parts they do not make the m 30 class anymore so went with the m 29 class for $110.00 ea
you have to figure in your trips to return the other brands and failure at critical times. Ac/delco is worth the $ to me for 4 years of no problems.

I went to Wal-Mart last week to replace mine an they told me they don't warranty any deep cycle batteries anymore. Can you believe that?

The best thing about the wal-mart marine is that you can always find a wal-mart and they have a one year warranty, no questions asked

The yellow everstart are the ones I have in my boat. These batteries had been sitting in my boat for 6 months when I bought it with no charger on them. I charged them up and have ran them ever since.

My Delco's have been great for 3 yrs but the best thing I do for my cranking battery is keep a trickle charger on it whenever it's parked! Like a Battery Tender or something similar-avoid Schumacher chargers.

Walmart is good for replacement at anytime, but Optima has a good deep cycle if you're willing to spend that much. Also, you can get TNT batteries in Cleveland. They're good and fairly cheap in price.

I really had good feedback from the Exide Orbital Gel, as well as the Optima Gel batteries, when I sold them. Downside, the cost. On the other hand, the slim chance of something happening with the charge and not being able to immediately get a replacement would seriously make me consider getting one from Wal-Mart. Like he said, there's a one on just about every corner and they have NO PROBLEM taking a returned battery, especially under warranty, and switching it out with a new one. Heck, if need be, you could swap it out at 5 in the morning before a trip out on the water if something happened to be wrong. Ahhhh convenience is king.

It concerns me that the M30 class just lasted 45 months. Were they sealed batteries or the type you had to check/add water to? Are the M29 class youjust got sealed ? I heard they changed to the type you had to check/add water to and they were not as good as the older sealed models.

I believe they are sealed both the m30 and the m29. I've had the blue Optima's they lasted 20 months and interstates lasted about 24-30 months. I thought 45 months was good. I had bad luck with batteries in the past but had the best results with the ac delco's.

My bad for some reason when I read 45 months I was thinking 2 years. Must be my East Ridge math.emoLaugh 45 months is good. I think I'll go by Ken Smiths and check the delco's out.

I have the new delcos in my boat. the ones i have are not sealed. they are on their 3rd yr. I have never had any brand battery last over 2 yrs in my boat. so they are doing better than most.
I have had dekas, everstarts, bass pro shops brand, sears, diehards, autozone, etc. best so far are the ac delcos.
I bought mine from Jerome Franklin at Franklin marine. I think they were about $100 a piece.

ac/delco is what I have run in my boat for 14 years and I go to Ken Smith to get them the best battery imo and last for about 5 years too of heavy trolling too
