Just wanted you guys to know that the Spots and LM are really tearing up the bigger baits right now in North GA and probably TN too. We were using REALLY big trout for bait trying to get some big stripes today and had about 5 or 6 trout 8 inches or bigger get creamed multiple times by big Spots and LM. Unfortunately we were not using stinger hooks and it is very difficult to hook bass on a bait this big with just a hook in its nose, so we didn't get a hook in most of them. It was a sight to see a 20" Spot trying to swallow a 12 inch trout though... emoBigsmile

I am not the only one seeing this either. Several of my fishing buddies on Lanier have caught bass over 5 lbs in the last couple weeks including a LM that was pushing 10 lbs. Mike Bucca (aka Triton Mike) has been catching some hogs on Allatoona using a 8" trout imitator (jointed, shallow diving). Same thing on Carters from what I hear. I know a lot of bass fishermen downsize in the winter, but it might be worth trying a huge bait as they are really starting to get aggressive as the water warm's and you have a better chance to get a trophy fish I think. Hope you guys get some big ones. Dirk

I just bought a bunch of 5 and 6 inch swim baits from reaction strike. I thnk they are called fathead Jr. and they are not too pricey. Im going to sling em next time out.

One of the things I have found myself doing this year is using bigger baits than I normally do in the spring and it has paid off. Big fish eat bigger meals!

For what it's worth - and this really started to show-up last year - but my jig and SB sales took a big shift to where 3/4 and 1oz heads pulled up almost even with 3/8 & 1/2oz. Big grass jigs are still dead, but big FB head jigs and big SBs are selling like there's no tomorrow.

I've also seen an increase in requests for smaller baits w/ bigger blades or more strands added to the skirts - which, of course, is an attempt to go big w/o going big.

We'll see the 'switch' in finesse tactics soon where guys wanna dropshot w/ baitcasting gear, 12lb line, 3/4oz of lead, 3/0 hooks, and 8" lizards or worms ... mark my words.

I agree 100% with your 3rd statement Rob.  Also, we need to have a jig building session Saturday night.. we are overdue :)
