Big Buck Contest

You know I'm down! Deer are so different from county to county, so I think a bragging rights works better than any monetary prize. I've been seeing some great deer and judging by the text I got Terry has been seeing them too. Oak trees are loaded around home. It ought to be a fun season.

I'm in even thou I rarely see trophies. Maybe everyone throw in a $10 or something like that and just have a winner take all program? If you guys would rather I could take the money and buy a trophy for the best one. Jmax

Sounds great, wish I shot bucks...:(
How about a "Most Tender Doe" contest??

I want to be a judge if we do that. emoHungry Jmax

Guys I will join in on this. I need something to make me get out and hunt more this year and that would do it for me. I need to get on the biguns again this year. Have passed on multiple trophys in my own opinion in the past ten years and have even missed them. But I stopped hunting as much and started smallmouth fishing more in the winter. So now with my work scheadual now I will be able to do both so I look forward to the smallies and the Bucks this year.

You guys layout the guidelines on recording it and I'll see about a nice Trophie for the winner. ;)

When I use to do them at Wally World we did it simply by having 5 points for each legal point and 1 point for each inch of horn. Ex.; eight point would be 40 points plus how many inches of horn it has. Made for a pretty easy system. If someone got a non-typical with a ton of points they pretty much had it won was the only problem. emoScratch Jmax

I say we just start a thread, come up with rules ( geographic limitations, weapon, etc.). post the bucks through the season and at the end nominate a "top 5 big buck entries" the at the decided end of the contest do a poll on here...just a thought. It would be cool to have a seperate catergory for youth, bow, mzl, and rifle. I say we leave money out of the deal if Billy can get trophies...Braggin rights only. ??????????

Very good idea Churly. Maybe I will be able to wobble off the mountain and get on something good this year. I'm on a get myself in shape mission and walking the mountains is my favorite way to excerise.

My hunting buddy has some trail pics his son-in-law took about 2 miles as the crow flys from here thats going to raise some eyebrows. Will post them when I get back to work and it aint no deer.

Whatever is fine by me. I wished we could have a meeting at the end and have everyone bring the horns to compare but if someone has a big one they may be getting it mounted so they would not be able. I vote to have Churly(AKA, Great White Hunter) be in charge of this project and Bbass can get the trophies. emoToast I am good whatever you guys decide. emoTongue Jmax

Guys, we had this same type of contest at work last year. We based it on a points system. For example any deer shot with bow got 4 bonus points(6 pointer with bow=10 points, doe with bow just 4 points)etc. Muzzleloader was same antler value and 2 bonus points and deer with rifle was simply antler points or 1 point for doe. It was very competitive and lots of fun. We had to prove kill by photo or showing of deer. I don't know how we could do it by just bragging rights except like was said earlier about at the end just selecting the top 5 and taking an overall vote for the best deer. Could be a very big deal I'm interested to see what happens.

I would like to do this but I am sure many people dont hunt all seasons. I would vote on Churly's idea but add that you can only enter one deer for the season so if someone kills a nice buck they will need to wait till season is over or take a chance and hope they do not kill another bigger buck that might be the one they would rather put on the board.

I say: you must post a "report" about your kill. Show a decent pic, or two or three, and then after season, we run a poll to determine the winner by voting for the favorite story. Who will second this?
