Stay away from the Downtown area this weekend. The "Head of the Hooch" rowing event takes place. Wiskers and I saw them setting up the dock where the races start when we fished Wed. That dock sticks out into the river at least 100 yards.

I wondered if they would close down the river for that event? The guy on the plane next to me last night was visiting here from Florida because his son was competing in the event.

They were placing the bouys and markers Thursday, MB. I guess it would be a good time to catch up on the lake side fishing this weekend unless you are really into rowing events. Seems like they will be taking the whole river for the turns.

Hope they have a good weekend and everyone stays safe. The last week end reports from down there wasn't good.

If you want to fish below the dam Saturday or Sunday, I think you will be OK as long as you stay above the VFW/ golf course area. I'm betting the riverpark ramp will be dedicated to "authorized boats only". You may be able to launch up by the Dam behind Chatt State.

According to the diagram in today's paper, that dock we saw being setup is where the rowers will get in and out.

I heard a rower call into the radio station this morning asking all the big boats to be careful of their wakes. I think a few have been nearly swamped in the past by cruisers.

I heard this is the second biggest regatta in North America and does alot for the downtown economy. I really hope the big boats take it easy on them down there this weekend.

emoDance I'm leaving town this weekend.... really. emoPolice I'm sure the Coast Guard Auxillary will be working overtime, and maybe the real water police.

So you listen to WGOW, Jeff Styles, DHaun? I had that station on for a few minutes this morning and heard that segment too. That is really a great race for Chattanooga and is well worth having the river less accessible for a weekend for the income that it brings to the area. It's really one of the biggest and best known races in the US and draws litterally thousands of people. It's named after the Chattahoochee river and that's where it began from what I've heard but they decided to move it to Chattanooga because we have such a great venue for it and there is no such venue on the Chattahoochee.
