The girlfriend and I headed up to the Big South Fork for a few days worth of hiking, canoeing and horseback riding. I've been wanting to do this for a while, since a large portion of my family is from Scott County, and my great grandfather, Walter Pemberton surveyed vast tracts of the Big South Fork National River Area from 1930-1970s. Well, with the huge rains the canoe trip was cancelled, and scheduling conflicts (work making me come back sooner) made us cancel our forseback trip with Carl Guffey Wednesday afternoon. We did dodge the rain and got to explore the Colditz Cove and Leatherwood Ford Trailhead areas. We had some really nice hikes, and wanted to do more, but ran out of time. I am kind of obsessed with waterfalls, so these hikes were right up my alley. If ya'll are ever up that ways check out the Wildwood Lodge near Jamestown if you are looking for a place to stay. A nice set up and great folks. Enjoy the pics...

Good times. Makes me think of some of the hiking I used to do in secret spots on Signal, well not so secret, but no beer cans laying around which says a lot. Great photo of you standing on the sign.

If you love waterfalls (I'm a waterfall freak too), go to the Brevard, Cashiers, Highlands area of SW North Carolina.

Shank,

Big South Fork (of the Cumberland) lies on the border of Fentress and Scott County, Tennessee... it extends north into Kentucky as well. Its wild as the day is long too.

Check it out: http://www.nps.gov/biso

I'll have to check out that area you speak of.
