Well we had a rough tournament on the St Johns yesterday. We were on a good pattern catching prespawn staging fish on jerkbaits and worms in the grass while it seemed the rest of the field was looking for fish on beds in very crowded areas. Come tournament day we made the long run from the bottom of Crescent lake to Lake George to our starting spot we really thought we would be able to catch 5 keepers pretty quick, but of course that wasn't the case. We thoroughly fished the area for about an hour and half and didn't get a nibble, compared to the day before we probably made 15 casts and put 2 keepers in the boat emoBang. So after that we knew we were in trouble, we decided to scrap our game plan and run even further down south to Lake Dexter even though we didn't practice there at all. We ended up catching our limit down there in about 2 hours on a nail weighted trick worm fished around isolated clumps of lily pads. We weighed in just a 7-1 limit that got us a 37th place finished out of 114 boats if that says anything about how tough it was down there... 22 lbs won the tournament and 12 lbs was all it took to get 10th place. 35 of the 114 boats didn't weigh in a single fish. Our next college tournament is on KY lake in March and we are looking forward to that one!
