FYI... as I came in this evening birds were working heavy a few hundred yards North of Wolftever Bridge... up close to shore. It was real late when I got there... at first I could tell there was a combination of stripers and bass chasing bait. As it got later the stripers pulled out but the bass stayed in there hammering shad hard until it was too dark to see. I only managed one fish about 3 lbs. Same old frustrating scenario ... hard to believe you can throw your entire tackle box at fish busting all over and not catch 'em! emoBang

Thanks RSimms! I saw the bait and birds in there scouting last week...no fish though. Good to hear there are some in there working the bait.

Billy and I also were trying to get bit in all those baitfish. We were snagging yellowtails on the Silver Buddies. We saw a few Drum caught and a couple of Bass. We had left before the surface activity started I recon. Thanks for the info.

I've had that happen to me in that area early in the season before too. I don't know what they will hit but there must be something to key in on to get them to bite. If it were me I would try to focus in on cover that you can find with your electronics that is on the bottom off shore in that area rsimms if you are looking to catch the bass. The bigger bass may be picking off stragler baits from below. Either that or concentrat on points or the creek channel in that area and see if there are any congregations of fish there. Following bass that are following bait balls is always frustrating for me, that's for sure, because the fish always seem to be more than a cast away or not interested in what I'm throwing. When the water warms up it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem. Are you sure that many of the fish breaking weren't skipjacks? They can make such a comotion and unles I throw a one inch long bait I can't get them on a hook in that situation. I would focus on interesting looking structure in the area or cover that you can find off shore if I were getting frustrated not catching them like that.

No... it wasn't skipjack. Definitely bass, and when I first got on them several stripers. I had some come up right beside the boat where I could see them flash by. 10-20 pounders.!

Wow, that gets my juices flowing just thinking about it rsimms. Those crashes and boils right up near the boat must have been awesome. Too bad that those fish are so skittish.
