Took my uncle out today looking for a HOF'er for him and got skunked!! emoBang

Not being one to give up easily we retreated to my sister's pond, and my boys met us there for some baitslinging. As soon as the bait hit the water we had three fish on and probably caught 12 or so before we quit. Check out this

Its bad luck!!!! I caught one out of my uncles pond just like that. its either some type of bull head or a small flathead. Flatheads can really change their color depending on their environment. Looks like the younguns had a ball!

What did you do with the black cat??? Things being as they are .. I'm thinking if it were me ... that sucker is going back where it came from!!!

Not that I'm superstitious. :)

I lived up in IOWA for 5 years and we caught black bullheads and brown bullheads in the spring. It was kinda like a tradition to go out and fill up a 5 gal bucket with 3/4 to 3 lb bullheads. We had a blast on light tackle. Might have been a bullhead?emoScratch

All other catfish in this pond are your standard channels. How do we get this "bullhead" from this pond. My brother in law bought the stockers at the coop about 4 years ago. Maybe just a "freak"!!

Hey where in Iowa? I was born and raised there and my whole family lives there still today. I'm the only one who ever moved away!!!

Dubuque area ... and I lived in Des Moines for a couple years when I was 39 .. couldn't STAND the snow .. had to go. :)

Thats a cool looking catch there CRAZYHORSE. I love fishing in those ponds. A freind of mine has one thats got a huge flathead that we put in there about 8 years ago. It weighed 25 lbs back then. Im thinking about going and trying to catch him soon. Looks like the young uns was having fun. WTG!!emoThumbsup emoThumbsup emoThumbsup

I think the little one's will get you quicker than the big ones!!! did have a 50 lber i threw into Propbender's new boat that ended up tearing his seat one time. He was alright with it until we tried to weigh it and the scales pulled out of the fish's mouth and wacked him in the face!!
ouch!!emoDoh emoDoh He took it like a man though, a sissy man, but a man no less!!

Just a darker colored channel cat , check out it's bottom jaw. Yep , channel cat all the way. Flatheads have a longer bottom jaw than top and bullheads all have a scissor bite (dead even). Ictalurus punctatus 100%. Count the anal fin rays and look it up on yo compruter. It even has a forked tail-fin.emoThumbsup

I was wondering what those black cats were. I grab alot and have pulled them suckers out of several of my boxes and never knew what they were.

Channel cat all the way. I put 1200 channel cats in my pond when it was built and several are black. There also blue ones and brown ones and grey and yellow. Catch a mess and lay them side by side and they are the same fish just different colors.
