I asked My son Blake if he would go with me and hunt on the lastjuvenilehunt of the season. We needed more meat since I only pulled the trigger on one decent 8 pointer this season. That is what I got from letting them pass waiting on the trophy. If you knew what I had been seeing, you would understand.

I twisted his arm and made promises to get my son to go hunting on the last weekend Juvenile hunt. We did not go to the woods until about 2:00 PM. We started seeing deer when we first set up. I did not trust the sighting of his 243 so he carried my 270 Remington 700 BDL. He had never shot a rifle as big as my 270 so I was a little concerned as to whether he would pull the trigger.

After seeing about four does, a single good sized Doe came out. Without a bit of encouragement, Blake took the shot at the doe. Darn it! The shot was a little too far back. Gut shot. I got out of the blind after about a half hour to track the Doe. It had traveled about eighty yards and was down. But as I hate worse than anything, still alive. I went back to the blind and took Blake to the deer to finish the kill. An excellent head shot put it down. We left it in the snow, and went back to the blind.

Aconstantand steady flow of deer were parading through in our target zone. Blake and I looked out about 200 yds to see a Buck crossing through an opening after a Doe. Blake had been claiming to be trigger happy after the first kill and had selected several big does to finish his hunt. I think he was just ready to go home to call his little buddies and brag. I encouraged him to wait to see if a buck would come in.

A Doe crossed in our zone that I suspected was the deer the Buck was trailing. Sure enough, a couple minutes later the Buck stepped out. It was in a hurry to get to his Girlfriend, I did not have to encourage Blake at all . The rifle was up. He has a very steady aim to make any Dad proud. I told him to wait for his shot. The Buck paused in a perfect position ... Pow! ... The buck dropped in it's tracks from a double lung shot. Blake started un-zipping the blind door. I said "wait" "make sure it is dead before you let it see you." He stated that he made a good shot and it was dead. The littlerascalrushed down toward the deer with the gun safely on safety. He knew already what to look for. He said it's eyes are open as they should be and poked the Buck's face with the barrel. "It's Dead " he said. He had his ipod touch ready for the pics. "What a kid?

Now, thanks to Blake, we have enough Venison to last until next year. We saw at least 14 Deer.

Awesome man! Glad you got out with him in the snow, it didnt work out for us to go, so I am hoping for a little late Alabama action.
