blow hole ?

Are any of you folks familiar with what we call the "blow hole"? It's located in between the barge docks just below Watts Bar Dam. Haven't fished it in years and don't even know if it is still operating or not, thus the reason for this question. It used to be a good spot when the water was cold due to discharging of hot water into the Chick at that location. Any info?

Are you talking about the hole, where the water is released, when a boat goes through the lock

I don't think so Steve. I'm not sure but believe it was somehow connected with the steam plant rather than the lock/dam. It's below the dam in between some of those big round barge docks. The post before yours has some pics of it many years ago, but I believe it is the same place. I actually have not seen it spew out like the in the photo, but have seen it spewing hot water and it's very loud when doing so. We used to fish around it in winter/early spring when the water was real cold, and the hot water coming in from the "blow hole" or "honey hole" as some call it, would stack up fish in that warmer water. I was just wondering if it was still "spewing out" hot water like it used to do and if anyone had been having any luck fishing around it??

Yes, still there.... and yes, can be a hotspot for wintertime crappie if your timing is good.

Maybe later in the Spring or else next year. Not getting out right now for a few more weeks due to some major surgery this past Monday the 27th. I am looking forward to finding some good shell crackers in May or June. Can anyone out there put me on some of them in the next month or 2? It would be appreciated. Thanks, BHII

I posted some old photos of it in the Off Topic Discussions forum a year or so ago. The thread is "Watts Bar-old photos." Some people have been replying on it lately so it should be easy to find.
