I have had my share of up and down days since I have tried to make a comeback to fishing after 20 plus years of nothing but ball fields. I have caught a few big fish with my best being an 11-4 monster a few weeks ago but I have never had a day where my best 5 were more than 15 to 18lbs.... and maybe only one of those days. I know it takes years on the lake but I decided to try and leap frog some time and use someone else's knowledge.

SO... I hired Rogne for a day. He said it was a decent day and I must have jinxed him because he was on a streak of at least one 8lb fish everyday for more than a week... our best was 7-12. However I will say that while things started a little slow and by that I mean I was a little slow in listening to what Rogne was telling me.... Once I got on the same page and did exactly like he said I started hooking up with the best quality fish I have ever had on the Chick. The guy can flat out find the fish.... and catch'm. I didn't keep a count and we didn't take a bunch of photos but I would think that our best 5 would have been high 20s... probably 26 - 28lbs I would think. I know we boated more big fish in one day than I have all year... maybe the last two years combined. Maybe that was decent for him but it was my best day ever by a long shot.

No big secrets to locations... many were commonly know community holes but boat position and lure presentation were everything. We caught several 5lb fish while boats and jet skis ran all over them as we were sitting in a very high traffic area. It actually seemed like the boat traffic turned the bite on. We hit one area three different time during the day... He seemed very confident that at some point during the day that school he could see on his DI was going to start biting... Third time was the charm... got our big fish and several other nice fish on that area that produced nothing in the morning and mid day... but late afternoon they were all over it.

Great day on the water and great company... Rogne is great to talk to and full of great information. Not sure than I am ready to load the boat on my own but after his coaching on the electronics I do feel like I have a much greater understanding and confidence in what I am looking at. Time will tell how that translates to catching fish.

I know it totally changed my though process when looking for fish... Whether it helps me in the future or not it was a super fun day. I would highly recommend Rogne if you want to boat a lot of quality fish.

I threw one bait all day... cant say I have ever done that. Since I was in his boat throwing his bait I don't feel it is my place to share any more info than that. But I will say it wasn't anything special... it was more about where we through it and how we retrieved it.

Well I certainly do not have deep pockets and justifying spending that money was tough at first but when you think about it... I only have a limited amount of time off to go fishing. Usually limited to maybe 3 Saturdays a month. I want those days to be as productive as possible... I am spending gas money in my truck pulling the boat, gas in the boat... looking at 40 bucks right there if not a little more. Then I make boat payments, insurance and who knows how much money in tackle... I cannot post that info on this forum as my wife could read it and my life would most likely end.

So... with all that investment... I thought a day with Rogne was a small investment if it helped me better use my larger investment in the equipment and related expenses. Maybe I can get more enjoyment out of those few Saturdays I have to fish now.

I went with him last year and will tell you it's worth it. The conditions on the day I went weren't good, but I caught more big fish than I ever had in a single day. He's a great guide and teacher. I really wanted to go this Spring, but work got in the way.

That's great to hear Greg! Learning and perfecting casting and lure presentation is my most favorite thing. I think you made a wise investment, especially the little time you get on the water. Everyone I have talked to that have gone with him have had great times. Plus the fishing is Hot right now! I have a feeling it was a bait you have never caught a fish on before haha :bobber4:

You would be correct... Threw it a few times but never caught a fish. I wouldn't have yesterday if he had not taught me how..

I'm glad you got to experience that bite. It can be a grind sometimes but definitely worth it. If I wasn't so obsessed with flipping and top water right now I'd be throwing it too! It's nuts how in the winter time the fish literally seem to vanish and then we get to now and the fish are literally everywhere......Gotta love it!
