Ok I have decided that this winter (Winter project) I am going to replace the carpet in my 93' tracker Pro-17 I have never done anything like this before but i want to give it a try. I will also replace any old wood that looks to need it. Along with the carpet coverd wood boards and guides on the trailor. So here is my questions..

Where should I buy the carpet? Do I go down the the carpet places in GA or order it online?

What type of wood should i use for the decking as well as the boards on the trailor?

I figure a carpet glue and staples for attaching the carpet to the wood so what type of glue?

What about the ares where the carpet is attached to the Aluinium? what shoudl i do here if I run into that?

any other sugestions on what i should do while I have it apart? anything else i should look to replace or redo?

My boat has a small area infront of the driver console that is not decked. It would be awesome if i could extend the deck here and make a storage compartment for tackle. (right now I just put my tackle bag here) Also it has a very small rod locker that open from the top in a fold down manner. I have though about making it a little bigger and have it in a top open manner and just extend the wholw deck back.
any sugestions on how I should do this?

I will try and add pictures so you can see what i am talking about. Thanks everyone!!!!

I purchased a kit from Bass Pro Shops, not sure that was the best, but that's what I did about 10 years ago. Came with low pile carpet, which I like, and glue. I did not consider it an easy job, but that is just my opinion. Took off all of the doors, stripped the remaining carpet to attempt to get a pattern off of onto posterboard so I could cut the carpet and let the gluing begin. Personally, a second person helping would have been great. That glue in the kit will stretch a mile and get all over everything and you, your truck, boat motor etc. That stuff will get everywhere - at least that was my experience. What it sticks to will stick, so I guess that is a good thing. Screws or molding along the edges will prevent the carpet from rolling up. Just my opinion, but I would not attempt again without a gluecatcher, aka helper!!!!!

Dawnville,Ga between Dalton and Eton on hwy 286, I think its called Lancer, they sell marine carpet and glue to overtons, you can buy it cheaper in the store than online from overtons. short drive can save you money and you get the right color.

BassCat.com has some nice 24oz carpet, and ebay has a good bit. If you can remove the old carpet without damage then use it as template for the new stuff. good luck

Thanks everyone... I will look into all of your suggestions... I have never done anything like this before so I'm sure will be in for some fun and get real sticky...! But if I can help my old boat look better maybe I will want to take her out more often....!

I did mine last year and the kit from Bass Pro was a better deal than the GA companies on ebay. I ordered from BPS and it shipped from Dalton. Main thing to remember is the carpet has a grain be sure and mark on the back as you cut so you keep the grain going the same. If you get a piece backwards it will look like it is lighter or darker the the rest of the carpet. Buy a big pack of close pins for holding the carpet where you fold under the lid lips. I probably had them every 2 or 3 inches. You will want to use a roller of some sort when you lay the carpet on the glue. Mine turned out good.
