Been doing some research on the Boat Dock at South Pittsburg. It is in dire need of some repairs. Have contacted the City officials about repairing the Dock but they say they don't own it. It appears the Carpet Mill owns the land and lets the City use it. It is very hard to launch a boat by yourself with the trouble being tying it off without damage to your boat. I have decided to buy the necessary materials to upgrade the existing dock to make usable and safe to use.
Would anyone be willing to offer some help, not asking for money just some free labor.

Wish I lived down there. I'd be glad to help but I live in Cleveland.

I built the dock with handicap access at Chester Frost in the early 80's and I built that aluminum framed floating dock just down river from the one you're working on, the one on the old water company property that Bob K. owns.

Maybe you could post a "Wish List" of materials you need. I'm a pack rat I may have something you can use.

I commend what you're doing. Great for you and everyone else. But you know, it bugs me. I know everyone who uses that ramp probably stops at a South Pittsburg convenience store to buy gas or goodies, supporting the city's tax base. Those who won't use that ramp (me) prefer to use Nickajack Dam, spending our money at R&R or other places far from S. Pitt... and just run our boats downstream, bypassing South Pittsburg. It just seems to me the very least the city would want to do is provide the free labor, if not the materials. emoScratch

Same here Richard. I have tried and tried to get something done. When I was young the boat dock was used by the City for events and took care of by the JC'S. Like I said their excuse is they don't own the land. I live just a couple of miles from the dock and want go by myself in fear of damage to my boat. When they run water it's hard to keep your boat off the iron beams and that can be rough on your boat. Alot of the boards are missing making it a safety concern. The current makes it hard to pull it up on the ramp.
