Well with everything I had going on I didnt get to get the boat out at all last year. The last time it was in the water was in October 2007. It has been in my garage the whole time except twice I took it out of the garage to clean the garage out.

I did put it on the water muffin and let it run for about 10 mins. My question is this, I know a yearly tune up is best but seeing that this boat had been out of the water that long is there anything else I should have done? I will more than likely take it to a local shop and have them doa good check up on the motor. Amazingly it fired up first try the first time I started it on the muffin it was a little over six months from the time I last put it in the water.

The pump seemed to be strong and there isnt that much gas in the tank almost empty. think there is any damage to the motor from sitting?

You should be in good shape, just drain the tank and put fresh gas in it, maybe change the fuel filter, it might have gotten a tad of water in the tank from condensation since it was almost empty. Change the foot oil and look for milk shake colored oil in foot, if so put new seals in the foot with a new water pump. If it runs fine on the muffs I see no need in new plugs.

If it ran smoothly you're probably ok. Biggest concern is plugged carb jets which cause a cylinder to run dry and score the cyl walls.

After a long spell of disuse lube each cyl through the spark plug hole. Bump engine to distribute the oil. Disconnect plug wires and crank with one piston at a time hooked up to plug wire to prove each piston is getting fuel. Do not run a rough running engine till you're sure of the fuel supply.

No fuel= no lube=scored cyl.

I paid $1,200.00 for this lesson in 1987. Yours for free right here!!

Then do all the other things recommended here.

Fresh gas. You should be good to go. Next time you store it, fill up the gas tank and add some gas stabilizer treatment to it.

follow FA's advice and replace the impeller, they dry rot and will come apart, clog your water supply and overheat the motor

old impeller= 5 minutes out, $3600.00 back

after you drain the old gas and replace with fresh, I would recommend you pour in a can of sea foam and run it. If you've never used the stuff it's great
it will help clean up your fuel system.
