I would like to mount a spot / headlight on my Javelin. What type of light do you guys recommend ( an off-road light ??) ? Can you buy a bracket to fit it to the trolling motor mount or do you have to fabricate it yourself ??

Thanks

Some of the halogen driving lights from Wally work pretty good. If you do a search you should find some good mount ideas. I think Davo or maybe some others made some pretty slick bracket for theirs.

BTW...I do have a bracket that goes under the trolling motor and drop below the hull a bit. Its stainless and I guess being that I'll never use it again...I'd be ok to part with it. It holds 2 lights or you can cut it in half to hold one.

Docking lights can be a great addition to your boat for intermittent use at night. Please do not turn the light/s on and run with it/ them on. The glare from the beam/ beams off the water is blinding to on coming watercraft and poses a navigational hazard.

I'll agree Carl. I spot the next green or red Buoy then turn it off. When I know I'm close, I re-check it and find the next one. On and off. Unless there isnt anyone else around.

You want to know what is more dangerous than running the lights while you run? Waterskiing at night.....I saw a bunch of drunks kids last night waterskiing at two in the morning. They were in a wakeboard boat that was full with about 10 people, and everyone had a beer in hand. So keep your eyes peeled out there at night, because you never know what you won't see.

Thanks for the input guys... Some people shouldn't even be on the water after dark- I had a 'oblivious' guy last night in W'tever that was so intent on spot-lighting the points, he was zig-zagging back and forth across the channel in a random manner - then on one of his zigs he cut right across my bow. I had to back completely off and he acted like he never even saw me or the other boat he had cut-off as he went down my right side at about 30 feet ...

That is where you very courteously use your own spot light and blister their retinas. You know your light is a signaling devise to wort off craft barring down on you at night.
