boat insurance

A friend of mine has recently changed her insurance to Geico. She has let me borrow her boat a few times. she just got her new policy and noticed it specifically says it does not cover non-relatives who are driving the boat without her present. My question is, is this common on most boating policies? Are there any ways around this? If i had insurance on my boat, would it cover me if I was using someone else's?

Well I just called my Agent Stephanie Sinkfield Lee Highway ( State Farm Agent ) Shes great agent by the way .. She says with State Farm.. as long as you give them permission, yes the boat is still covered by State Farm , same as with a car.. If You call her . .. Tell her Sean McDonald referred you!
I have had several companies over the years State Farm has always came through when ever I needed them.. just dont go Progressive they suck bad.

Give Bob at worldwide marine Ins. a call. I thought I completely understood my old policy until I talked with Bob. I renewed with Bob and he saved me over $100.00 and I have better coverage than under my privious policy.

The liability coverage for someone using my boat with permission was dropped this last cycle from my Umbrella Liability policy with State Farm. I checked with my agent and the 300,000 liability coverage for someone using my boat with permission on my boat policy is still in effect. I don't think your boat policy would cover you while using someone elses boat. I'd recommend getting an Umbrella Liability policy like I mentioned above. My million dollar policy only costs about $150.00 a year.

I have State Farm. I understand that All State and Nationwide are good. Stay away from Progressive and Gecko. There is a reason why they are less expensive! You know the old saying, insurance in no good until you need it. Well in their case, it's still no good, even when you need it! Just ask around.
