I put on a 95 Evinrude 150 Intruder. The pic I am including is not my boat, but is the same model as mine for hull reference.

I tested the boat today, and I am having to borrowing a prop at the moment. It is a sts 3 blade prop, I THINK it is a 21 pitch. It comes out of the hole pretty well, but it pulls left pretty aweful. I only got it up to about 4200 and running 44 MPH, if the new speedo is right. Even at a ggod plane, it seems to want to go left real bad, and I am worried if I ever lose grip of the wheel, I will roll the boat. I dont care about top-end, but would like to get up on plane fairly quickly. It does have a whale-tail on the motor, and I would take it off if I thought that would help.

Anybody got any ideas for me?

Leave the whale tail on im op. If it is leading left the go right above the prop and adjust the trim tab. That is the little fin looking thing that is located right above the prop. Set it at about dead center leading it just a little to the left and try it and adjust it until it comes at the right playing angle to keep it staright.
After you get it straigh then see how many rpm's its running at wot and we can work the prop from there.

my boat did the same thing and a freind of mine told me that I sould check to see if my engine was level .I got my transom level and then loosend the bolt's holding the engine to the transome .Then I adjusted the engine so it was now level and tightened the bolts back up and now the boat does'nt pull any more.that fixed it for me.

Spur, do what Bubbacat says, take a ratchet with you, you may have to adjust it several times. Once this is fixed start playing with different props to get as close to WOT without going over the max rpm.

Spur forgot to mention that you might have to adjust trim tab,I had just through that one on a few months ago.I broke the other tab off.

Spur, I love your boat, that has got to be a fine fishing machine. One of my friends has one a lot like that and I drool all over it everytime I get close to it. Glad to see you back on the water.

Spur, if we didn't watch over you every minute there is no telling what would happen to you. You are getting the best info possible from everyone. Don't get into a big hurry with the new motor, you will get the problems ironed out in no time. You could buy the new hydrolic steering to put on the boat but it is sorta expensive but it will stop the torque steer.

Make sure the engine is trimmed out after it planes out. In fact, start trimming out as the bow drops over on plane. Engine trimmed down is the biggest cause of torque steer.

Two things that will help. There is a part you can buy that bolts on to the skeg. I believe it is called a torque out or something like that. It is an auminum blade/flange that you mount on the skeg to neutalize torque steer. It may be called a torque tab and I know Nichols carrys them. I believe you will want to put it on the right hand side of the skeg. The other thing to try is a 4 blade prop. It won't eliminate it but it will reduce it.

I don't know why I didn't think of this Spur. My boat doesn't have a trim guage so the only way I know it is trimmed up right is when the torque steer goes neutral. My G3 is real bad to pull hard right untill it's trimmed up. I'm so used to it now I don't even pay attention to it. That just might be your whole problem.

Doc's advice is sound.

I have a 17' alum Tracker with a 60 hp. It was missing the trim tab and was terrible to steer. New trim tab and a couple of adjustments and now it runs true.

Please fix the steering problem first and use your emergency kill lanyard.

It is a big Safety issue.

Having run construction companies for 30 years there are only three things that really concern me: Safety, Safety and Safety.
