Well you here alot about how other non fishers don't know how to unload and load boats at the ramp. Well Saturday morning getting there early, at least I thought here is a line of people taking most of the road to ramp, no one moving, proceded to go around, got real close to other trucks"to close" proceed to unload boat, well then you got 5 boats tied up to floating dock and no one around, I think thats why the have those big logs so people don't block the floating dock, no one around.setting there before my son and I started fishing you see a line of boats and trucks, then there's one guy at ramp unloads boat takes it to floating dock goes back to truck then starts talking to other tournament fishing men looking at there boats and trucks the whole time blocking the ramp. My complaint is even the tournament fishing men think they own the ramp. It's for all to share, even for us regular fishing men. Unload you boat move on if your not ready don't pull up to ramp and just set there. emoBang

Tournament director(s) should have kept a flow going and boats backed off the dock. CBA and CFF will let a non competitor slide in and launch if they want. Other than that, the anglers dumped those boats and move quickly out of the way. Sorry you experienced that. I would have said something. ;)

All boaters should keep the dock clear. It belongs to everyone and is therefor picking up and letting out riders, not parking.

Next time tell the tx director. I've been there and through the same thing and I'm not bashfull about telling the guy in charge.

I have posted on another topic of the issue of this Ramp. I wanted to make sure I was correct in my thinking before posting on the topic so a Road Trip was in order to Check out the local ramps on Hell Tour 2010. Wow! Alot of people at the lake today... Having said that and spent so much time there a few weeks ago, I had gained some insite on the issue of the Ramp. When this ramp was built in the days of creating Lake Nick-A-Jack, our fishing boats and pleasure boats and even our trucks were smaller than these Double Cabs we have today. So that leaves very little room in front and behind the parked vehicle. The problem is that once you are launched you have a real nice dock to tie up to and that's good for the guy who still owes 30 grand on his boat. I remember the ole concrete walkway ramps that you would slide and bust your butt on about as wide as your butt. Not much tieing up and talking done in those days....lol..lol..

But it is like these other posters have said, and even if I have only a few post since finding this Forum, (the average tournament) will put 30 boats in and out of the water in a hurry and usually don't waste any time doing it. I know there might be a line but there isn't much wait becaue they are so well versed in getting in the water than they can run three or four wide down the frontstreach (oh I'm racing again), but you get the point. Anyway it sounded like an issue of just plain (dumb moment) we all have. But I still don't know why any fishermen would want to fish a tournament this weekend....lol...lol...lol....

I've been told recently that improvements to ramp 2 at MCP are in the near future.

That's GREAT! I know the week I was there a fellow camper brought in a Floating Dock he had found somewhere down the lake and tied it off but last time I was there it had floated back in the cove and no one was trying to use it. I usually use the #2 ramp cause it is more out of everones way and I don't have that fancy of boat anymore.

.... and you should! If everyone preps their boat before unloading, there shouldn't be a problem. It's the one's that haven't checked their batteries or gas, etc. that are usually the problem.

I've been told recently that improvements to ramp 2 at MCP are in the near future.

I would like to see them do some work to the park as well, the RV section is in need of an overhaul (new showers and restrooms) and maybe a dock or two that extends a ways out on the rv and tent side so those with boats can leave em in overnight and tie up and pave the roads through the campground and yes the parking needs to be improved but for a pulblic ramp still not that bad of shape I know I cant park there unless I pull to the side I just dont leave enought room and in front and behind me for others to make it through and last thing I want to do is hinder someone elses good time on the lake.

TWO WEEKS AGO I PUT IN AT MCP AN GOT THERE EARLY.I ALSO HAD THREE TRUCKS WITH THERE BOATS SITTING IN LINE TO PUT IN .BUT THEY WERE ALL OUT TALKING .NOT GETTING THERE BOATS READY TO LAUNCH.SO I JUST PULLED TO THE OTHER SIDE AN CIRCLED AROUND AN PUT MY BOAT IN AN PARKED.I HOPED THAT THEY DID NOT MIND.NOBODY SAID ANYTHING.IF THEY ARE NOT PUTTING IN THEY SHOULD JUST PULL AROUND AN PARK LIKE THEY WOULD IF THEY HAVE ALREADY PUT THE BOAT IN THAT WAY THE ROAD WOULD STAY CLEAR. I QUESSTHIS IS TO SIMPLE. AN I ALSO FORGOT THAT THE TX BOYS RULE. LOLemoUSA

Haven't heard anything about park area improvements. A county employee just said that ramp improvements were coming soon.Don't know if that includes a dock, but I sure hope so. Last thing I saw floating over there that resembled a dock was a bench seat someone threw out of a pontoon boat. emoEek

Hey Rex, maybe they can come out 8 lanes wide !! Just Kidding ! emoPoke emoBigsmile

If your boat floats it's fancy enough. Never has been about boatappearance to most of us old schoolers, it's all about fishing andthe fisherman.

Well she does leak a little just hit the bildge ever hour on the hour and I should be fine...lol... Naw, this is boat number six after climbing the fishing boat ladder, with the last one in the garage 3 years without using it, It's kinda hard to justify to the wife that I need another Big Bass Boat at this time in our lives... But sure was nice fishin out of that Ranger yesterday... Now all the guys I used to take fishin that now they own boats can take me fishin......

... I wish that Marion County or whomever would just put out some garbage cans! I put in over at Serindnio a lot and have for years, but I've never seen a garbage container!? Come to think of it, I don't know it i've ever seen any at Sullivan's?

We have asked for trash cans at the ramp several times. Have been told they were on the way several times.emoScratch

We keep a couple plastic bags in the boat to pick up any trash around the ramp after fishing.

Also have tried to get the light fixed at the Shellmound ramp.

I took the wife and kids to the Chickamauga Dam yesterday evening. There was a pretty good line waiting for the ramp but I've seen it longer. I went ahead and prepped the boat for launch and kept waiting it seemed like forever! I went down to see a boat trailer backed in cock-eyed and blocking 2/3 of the ramp. There was a boat broke down out there and the truck just parked on the ramp!!! The guy only left room to back one trailer down and just about every one had one guy backing in, getting in the boat and driving around trying to find room on the dock between the jet skis and other boats just "parked" at the dock. After all this he then had to walk back to his truck and get out of the way. This just burns me up. If the truck blocking the ramp wasn't bad enough, you got all these people just tied off at the dock sitting there for 20 to 30 minutes at a time for no reason. I had to push my way in just to tie my boat off and its not very big. After the mayhem my 3 year old got to go on his first boat ride and catch his first fish with me. I was very very proud. I will put some pics of him on here when I load them. The ramp was much better once we left.

the light at shellmound would be awesome but I get the run around on that one TVA says its the county, county says its TVA so I am not sure on that one, on the trash can issue I know back in the day they had them at Marion County Park (at the ramp and pier) but they were getting loaded down with deadfish so they took them out I couldnt imagine going to empty a trash can thats been bakin in the sun with deadfish in it for 2 or 3 days and then have the bag bust on you while transfering seen it many times, MCP has come a long way from the days of my youth and it seems a lot of people forget its a County ran park and more there than just the boat ramp that the citizens of Marion pay for and able to be used for free to non residents. Thank you HL&S for taking the time to bring the trash bags to help clean it is GREATLY appreciated as when I stay there I tend to help cleam restrooms there and such to help out and give back.

We get the same story on the Shellmound light.

Hadn't thought about the dead fish. It would sure leave an impression on the guy having to empty the can. emoEek

Probably betterto keep the bags and take a minute to pick up. Less chance of rotting fish. Thanks for your efforts in keeping the park clean too, oggism, and sharing the info.
