i'm about to buy a ford ranger it got a 4cyl in it well it be able to tow and pull a boat up a fishing ramp i mainly use riverpark the boati s a08 basstracker pro 16
thanks

It will pull the boat ok, what you will have to watch is trying to stop it on wet roads leave plenty of room ahead of you!

I'd be more concerned about how much it will labor your 4 cyl just towing in general.
If the truck is a deal you can't pass up-do it. My input is if your shopping, go bigger!. If you get the 4 cyl-take care of that little dude (oil changes, air filters and plugs) If it happens to be an automatic, make sure you have a cooler on it.

Think about this, while the Ranger should do "just okay" with your current boat,
what if you decide to upgrade to a fiberglass rig? Think long range, down the road, not spur of the moment.

I drive a 4 cylinder 4runner... it pulls my boat and other boats just fine for me. The biggest boat I have pulled with it is an 18FT fiberglass stratos (its a rather heavy boat)... it strains a little when trying to pick up speed on the hwy, so I try to be gentle with it. Pulling up and backing down a ramp with it is no problem for me.

Is it a 4x4? There have been several spots were 4wd was a must! A steep ramp that's wet or icy and your going to have problems. I have also backed the trailer off the ramp when the water was low, and my back tires where right in a wet spot! Good thing I had 4wd!

Don't let anybody pull you out of the water that isn't good with a clutch! Pulled a 15ft tri hull fiberglass boat for 2 or 3 years with my 4 cyl 2wd Ranger. Worked fine and still running strong

read something interesting lately - it said that if you try to pull a trailer that exceeds your vehicle's tow rating, and you are in an accident, then you insurance may not cover you. Not saying yours is too small, but check out the tow rating and then figure out how much your boat an trailer, loaded, weighs. If it's less than the tow rating then you should be fine - again, still being careful of course. I'd want to know without a doubht that I was covered by my car insurance. You can check with your agent.
