Boat sounded like flying away this weekend.

Well was ggion to post something about catfhihing on sat however, dind't really get out there. However when I was giong out in the boat, I would take er, up to nearly high speed and would seem like it wouuld start to overrev. I checked the prop and it was fine, could it of been because of the waves you all think, bceasue I will slow it down and it would slow me down and the nI could take off again and it would be fine and then it would happen again

The motor may be cavitating or it could be a spun hub in the prop, if it just started doing this, my guess it is a spun hub which you probaly can't tell just by looking at the prop. Yu might borrow a good prop from someone and try it on your motor and see if the over reving stops, if it does, have your prop redone, if it is cavitating or slipping in the water, it might just be doing this in water with waves where the boat is going thru waves. My guess is it is a spun prop. I think there is a prop shop in Soddy/Daisy that can fix this for you. Also was the power trim all the way down when this happened or was the motor trimmed out?

Thanks for the quick replies, I don't have power trim, I have to raise and nower it. I've got a spare prop I'm giong to try, and if its the probelem with the prop I'll take to one of these places that eveyone lists. I'm thinking I was losing bite because I could get it up to wot and it would just take off on a whim and as soon as I heard I pulled off. I've never been out in the rough water before and was to scared to see if the prop was coming out of the water. Thanks for the replies. One other question I'm using a 11.75x17 alumnumim and have a 11.75x15 ss. Do you think switching to the ss prop would be a bad mistake?

If you change to the sst prop, be sure that the motor doesn't over rev, it could blow your motor up, make sure of what the rev limit is on your motor and don't let the motor get above this limit, I hope you have a tach on your boat, if not hook one up temporary.

Thanks doc I've got one currently its at 4500 and the max wot is 5000, but I will keep an eye onit. the SS it what was on it when I got it, however the alum "appeared" to be the original so I stuck it on there because I was making sure it ran good.
