Boat Trouble

I put in at Lakesite last night and while idling through the ¼ mile no wake zone I thought my motor was making a funny noise. When I got on plane the noise got louder. It sounded like I was about to throw a rod. I let off and put it in neutral then revved the motor out of gear, sounded fine. Put it back in gear and got the same thing. It does not do it in reverse.

Three and a half hours and 5 small fish later I trolled back to the boat ramp. HELP!!!!

Sounds like you might need professional help. With your boat that is.

Check lower unit immediately, sounds like you may have water in it. I lost a 50 horse years ago, same symptoms.

Clutch dog in the lower unit is slipping. definately need some professional help

I will agree lower unit i had a 55 horse johnson a couple of years ago do the same thing i had to get it rebuilt but it sounded like then engine was flying apart in forward sounded fine in reverse and neutral it was the forward gear some of the teeth were broke in it it was cheaper to get a used unit than to have it built but i wanted to be sure i had a good one when i put it back together
