Boat Wreck

Our computer will not let me open the news thread about the accident and stops me from reading it on the news channel 9 site also. It's sad to read this happens every year to great people. BUT!!! This tragic accident may have been avoided and many others if boaters were allowed to have lights mounted for night navigation. Did the boat hit the piling? The boater may have seen the bridge pilings before impact and thus avoiding a disaster. This is just my opinion.
I feel fewer wrecks would occur from seeing the other boaters than the reasons stated in the regulations for not using lights. How many folks are involved in night time accidents from using lights?

PLEASE............... If you want to bash me over this, refrain yourself! emoZipped NUFF SAID!!!

Comments are invited. This has been discussed and debated over and over again on this site.

Keep replies FRIENDLY!!!!! emoGrouphug

Thank You

RE: Boat Wreck

Shark...I believe the news reported the boat, rounded a curve and hit another boat. I am not sure what type the other boat was.

Doesn't matter the lights, they wont work in a torrential downpour, which I suspect may have been the cause here. Unless the wake boat or the bass boat that hit them didnt have nav lights, its an issue of lack of visibility with driving faster than conditions allow. Tragic, just tragic.

I experienced this Monday before I even heard about the accident. Heading Yo ramp around 1:00 pm on Weiss in heavy rain. Your eyes are getting pelted from rain and spray. Hard to see in daylight, I am sure twilight was terrible. Keep your head On a swivel and look in all directions all the time. Sad situation that may make us all more aware and save a life.

Thanks to those for clearing up my misunderstanding. It's true, lights won't work in a rain as heavy as reported when it happened. Sorry for the loss of a fellow fishermen and his family's loss as well.

When I lived in Louisiana, I was shown a tree in the middle of a river. Two guys lost their lives when they hit the tree square-on during a dense fog. Any boating accident is a tragedy. I remember seeing a picture of a boat that ran into the living room of a houseboat on one of the lakes near Knoxville.

I first met Dale Rose at a traffic light in the 1960's. The light changed and we both dumped the clutch. We ran neck and neck and I could hear him laughing. We stopped and talked about our cars and became friends. We were both turning wrenches back then. We worked together selling cars in the late 80's. I ran into Dale at the gun range one day and made the comment, " one of us in going to be embarrased today". He laughed, we sat down and never uncased our rifles. Dale had a laugh all his own. We both fished, but never in the same boat. But, we always stopped to talk. Whatcha catching, how many, how big, etc.

Dale was a good man and a good friend.

I'll miss him.
RIP Dale. :(

Has it been said just who hit who? From the looks of the pic, it looked to me like the Norris Craft was hit side ways and T boned. I couldn't see damage on the front or back. Does anyone know?
