A friend was bow-hunting near Scottsboro, AL this past weekend. He said that he heard a vehicle stop near his, and pretty soon he heard the report of a shotgun. A few minutes later, another and another. He finally decided that these squirrel hunters would probably run any deer that he might have seen into the next county, so he decided to pack it up and go home. As he was gathering his equipment, he felt a tremendous stinging on the back of his arm followed immediately by a loud roar. You guessed it... he had been mistaken for a squirrel.

The guy that shot him said that the sleeve of his hunting shirt looked like a squirrel clinging to the side of a tree, and when it moved he shot it!! The guy helped him get down out of the treestand, and even offered to take him to the emergency room. My buddy drove himself home, and his wife took him to their familyb physician, who removed 15 lead shot from the back of his arm.

Don't sound like fun to me!!

How crazy can you be to mistake an arm for a squirrel; I am glad for your buddy it just got him in the arm.

I would have done a lot more than what your buddy did...number one is that the shooter would have paid for my medical attention and number two the shooter would have been arrested. There is NO excuse for this kind of garbage in the woods. The shooter needs to be made accountable for his actions. I am glad you friend is ok. It surely could have been a lot worse.

Yeah I don't think I could have restrained myself. I think he needs to report the man that shot him. He was probably not squirrel hunting he was probably shooting anything that moves hunting. We definatly don't need people like that in the woods.

I agree, you have to be about half dim-witted to mistake someone's arm for a squirrel. That's the second cardinal rule in hunting, always identify your target. As for me, I would rather let something walk and mistake it for a human, than to shoot and know that it was a human. Sometimes, common sense has to take over.

I would find the person who shot your friend and introduce him to the back of a squad car.
