I like braided line for my baitcasting reels. I have spiderwire stealth and like but I am alwys unsure what "test" to buy. Most of reels are Calcuttas and Chronarchs. A bass fisherman at Guntersville once told me that most baitcasters are manufactured for a line diameter of btween 10 an 13 pounds. He advised that i should always worry about line size over line test when buying a general use line.

Any comments on favorite brands and sizes would be of great help.

Thanks

I only use braided line on one reel, but I like to have 30 lb test (8lb diameter) . I can put more on my spool and can cast it a mile.

I use Power Pro. I think the advive that you recieved was intended to be for mono only. Heavier pound test mono starts to get more stiff as the diameter increases. Therefore the smaller lines will perform better. Unlike mono, super braids stay more limp as the size increases.

The rule that I use in selecting a braid is the point of breaking. Twenty Five pound test is the most practical to me for use on a bait-caster. I have some 85# Power Pro that would cast just fine on a baitcaster because it is as limp as 12# mono. The point is, how strong is the drags on your reel? And can you break that heavy a line if you snag.
Too big a braid is just "overkill".

I have Power Pro on one reel and like it. I think the point he was making was that most rrels are made for 13 lb mono. So 30 lb PP is has the roughlyth same diameter as 13 lb mono .

thanks
