I screwed up my brake actuator cable on my boat trailer. I parked the boat in the basement this afternoon, unhooked all the lights, safety chains and the actuator cable. Jumped in the SUV and pulled out of the basement and heard a pop. I get and wwalk back to my boat trailer and the frayed end of the actuator cable is laying in the floor. The cable hook is hooked in the safety chain hook. The only thing I can figure is the braided cable fell over the trailer ball and it yanked it loose.

The cable at the bottom is what yanked loose.

I suspect it is a safety device in case the trailer comes off the tow ball. Will my trailer still work with this torn loose.

Will someone with some boat trailer knowledge advise me on this?

NO!

Call me tomorrow and I'll walk you through what to do. I'll send you a PM now but about to go to bed. You need a new cable and reset the actuator.

Ah heck...I'll do this now.

See # 24. Push it straight up. You'll probably hear a click. Thats means the brakes dis-engaged. If not..you may not have locked them down. I have the cables in stock. I'll pass you my number....

It didn't click but the trailer will roll forward and backward without any hesitation. I really won't know if is road worthy until this afternoon when I can hook it up, and the wiring harness and try to pull it. (This having to go to work stuff sure is pesky).

If it rolls freely, you should be able to tow it with no problem. That cable is supposed to hook on your hith where you attach the emergency chains. It is there is the event your trailer becomes disconnected, it willl engage the brakes so you don't see your trailer passing you!! emoScratch emoScratch emoDoh emoDoh
