I just recently got my boat back from the repair shop after having a couple of the cylinders honed. I've ran about a tank and a half of gas and double oil through it while running slow, not above 4K rpm and varying my speed. Does that seem like enough time or should I keep doing what I'm doing for a longer period? Last thing I need now is to mess it up before I've had a chance to run it but it's driving me nuts not being able to open it up and having to idle around so much. Thanks.

I have always heard "break them in like you are going to run them" I have and have never had a problem. I have never owned a new motor over a 90 hp though.

J-dub, don't know what kind of motor or what size you have, but thats about right. When I got mine rebuilt back in 2003 they said two tanks or ten hrs. which ever came first. Had to make myself do it but it has paid off. Hope you get it out there and it does well for you.

When I got my new boat last year, they said 2 hrs. break-in. So I went out and did it all at once, so that I could use it as I wanted when fishing.

Personaly I have allways warmed them up abit and ran up slow - not for long , then ran them like i would anyother day , .I ahve never
had any problems compared to people who babied them, but thats just me...Larry t..
