Caught 4 smallies today . Biggest 4.17 . All the others between 2 and 3.5 pds. They also caught a Blue cat that was 10 or so on 6 pd. line. Circle hooks are great . Kids can't set the hook very well . We still didn't lose a fish. All hooked in the corner of the mouth and released. Just remember fishing is very trying , even for us. I love to give my girls these excursions , Watch out boys , you'll get skunked. Believe that!

Thanks for the report bass15. Were you fishing above or below the Dam? What bait were you using with the circle hooks? Sounds like a great way to take a kid fishing. emoThumbsup

We hooked a HAWG , I know that it was a Smallie , because i saw it . Hooked at 12:50 on a 4" live crawdad . Probably 6or 7 pds. or so . Must have had her by the skin of her teeth. I bet she knows there is no such thing as a free lobster meal now.I almost cried in front of my kids.

Below the sinker , half-way through the tail. With about a 24" leader to let it drift free. Move it every 10 seconds or so. Eats 'em up always.

Thanks! Last time I used live crawl fish, I apparently did it wrong. I used the same rig as I did with shiners (weight on bottom). Not a good idea, since the crawlfish could grip onto the line.

I wade in a creek to get them(Crawfish) . I really believe that if a man could get some live chub minnows (Creek Chubs approx. 4- 6" in length) he could really have a good chance in about 3 days of fishing to catch an honest 6 or 8 pdr. Smallie that is . These fish are so much smarter than everyone gives them credit for. Who Knows how many 6's that overlooked my ugly unrealistic LIVE bait today!

My fishing partner and his son always gets ours out of a creek. A few years back, it seems that I got some at the tackle store in Soddy, but that was quite a few years ago under differant management. I couldn't even tell you the name of the tackle store, only because I don't live in that area. I'm sure someone on the forum could tell you if they have crawlfish or could at least give you a name to get their phone number.

Oh, I hate it when the big one gets away. Had the same thing happen this summer trolling. Got the fish up to the boat with my net in hand and it came up for one more jump....bye bye............:(
