Here is the thousand dollar question?build my blowed up 1993 efi 200 back after 4 times or not? I just hate to put 12k to14k in a new motor.and put it on a 1993 20ft. norriscraft. If you go to sale it you would loose your butt. emoScratch . What do you guys think?

call wrechin2 on this forum.there is a reason why it keeps blowing.he is a hell of out board mechanic.just ask some of the guys on here.his name is James 423-304-0930

so for $12-$14k I guess everything thing in the motor has been trashed and needs replaced ? Now obviously not the same, but I have rebuilt a couple of regular motors(not sure if yours is an outboard) and it didn't come close to costing a grand. I would think I could find a new block plus replace all of the pistons and still come in way under $12k - is just me but I personally wouldn't even consider putting that kind of money in a 93 anything unless there was something awfully special about it. Of course if it were me and I were looking at spending $12k, I would just buy a really nice used boat that had a good engine on it.

He didn't mean putting that much in the old motor. He meant buying a new motor and putting it on the old boat.

With the new season about to kick off you could probably find a good used one for about what you would spend for the rebuild. I think if you look around some are going to be changing out motors for the season and I would suggest looking around. I would not want to put a lot of money into an engine from 1993. I have seen some good looking engines out there. emoThumbsup Jmax

Call Paul Nichols at 451-0125. He can rebuild it for you or find you a good deal on a used or new motor. Paul does very good work, stands behind it and is very well connected.

I remember that one, did not know he still had it. If it were me I would go with that one for $4,000.00 rigged on your boat instead of rebuilding that one from 1993. Wished I had done that back when mine blew. :( Jmax

My boat is a 96 model. I do plan on re-powering it one day with a new Yamaha SHO. It wont be anytime soon since I still have a new rebuild on mine. I do love the layout of mine. I have seen some newer ones that I also like the layout but mine is all I have had and love it. I know I could find another boat for the 15K price of a new SHO but its my preferance. If you like your current layout then a new motor might be the route to go. Plus if your rebuild blows again thats 2-4K that you could have had in a new one.

I address everything that could cause it to blow and that is why I give a 1 year warranty. If it has blown 4 times then someone is just addressing what is wrong with it and not what caused it. I couldn't tell you how many engines I have built that was bought used on boats so be carefull. Also make sure that a leakage test has been performed IN FRONT OF YOU as this will tell you more about the health of the engine tha a compression test will. Just my experiences.

Ask FORDTRUCK on here about his deal. His engine blew and he found a "good" used engine and put it on his boat and it lost speed. He brought it over to check it out and found out that he had 2 engines that needed to be built instead of 1. We took 2 engines and made 1 good one as both had major issues.

Here is some reading on what the differences are on compression and a prime example of a engine that passed a compression test. http://www.chattanoogafishingforum.com/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=50110&posts=10&start=1
