Have any of you caught any bullhead catfish from Nickajack or Chick? I just noticed the state records for two of the bullhead species came from the Chick. I have yet to catch a bullhead from either lake.

Brown Bullhead 2 lbs. 14 oz. Chickamauga Reservoir John Thomas Hammond June 5, 1980

Yellow Bullhead 4 lbs. 8 oz. Chickamauga Reservoir Jessie R. Johnson April 21, 1979

If anyone has caught some please post what you used and the time of year, water depth, etc.

I caught a catfish years a go in the tailrace of the Nick, it was almost black, weighed around 4 or 5 pounds, my father in law had a name for it that isn't repeatable on here, it had fat wrinkles on the top of it's head. It was in warm or hot weather and we were anchored out in the swift water, fishing with shad guts, we were bumping the bottom for about 100 yards behind the boat. This may or may not be one of them but it sure was a weird looking cat with the forehead wrinkles.

That's interesting. I don't catch much but Flatheads, Blues, and Channel cats. I used to catch bullheads in small lakes in Illinios. I have a reference book about the fishes of TN and I will review it and see what it says when I can get my hands on it. It would be fun to get a state record, is that what you are thinking?

Not going for a state record, just want to catch one as I never have. According to literature they are in Tennessee I just have never caught one in my 20+ years of fishing.

I used to catch bullheads all the time in little creeks that fed into the main lake. PM me MrWiskers if you'd like a hotspot for bullheads! I will say that they are much more inclined to be out after dark than any catfish I have ever seen.
