I finally got back on the water today. My buddy and I had a blast catching fish after fish. Our morning started out slow. We got on the lake around 10:30am and went to our honey hole only it didn't yield any bites. We worked our way in and out of a flat fishing pads. We managed to catch a big chain pickerel ("jack fish") and a small keeper swimming a jig. After fishing a 100yd stretch with little to show we headed to the North end and found the mother load. The wind laid down a bit and my buddy started whacking them on junebug worms. We realized they were schooling after the wind laid. I started tossing a big spook and it was on for about 5-6 hrs non-stop. We doubled up on the two in the pic below. We switched between topwater and worms for most of the day. There were two guide boats in the area and they fished around us catching a few. In one boat was Preston Clark... He fished near us a bit then packed it up and ran back down the lake. Anyway, we tossed small swim baits and started whacking them on those too. We probably landed close to 50 or more and missed about that many. The bite finally died as the wind came back up and our stomachs were growling anyway. Take care...

Do you ever fish the PG run? Do you know where that is located? Back in the 70's we caught a load of pigs in that run. 13 fish that weighed 95 pounds. 14'10" largemouth topped the catch. We used golden shiners that we caught really early in the am. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Not sure where that is DK??? Tell me more.

Southeastern side of the lake. It is or was a Y shaped run into the pads. A local boat dock operator showed us how to catch the shiners and where to fish years ago. With vegetation, it might have all changed. My PB bass came from the northern end of the lake. It was a 10.5 lb largemouth, 27 inches long, 17 inch girth and skinny. It had the head of a 15 pound bass, but was blind in one eye. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

I think I remember my buddy talking about that area. Its below cross creek I think. I've heard him say PG run but can't remember exactly. The lake has some good fish in it still being that it was almost bone dry a few years ago. You still can't get to Lochloosa from cross creek because of low water.
