What does this mean ? Its it overheated or the oil mix in gas not correct ? The water pump is working properly so I do think its overheated... What is your guess ?
Most engines have different sounds for different reasons. Is it several fast or one every now and then? Does it have an oil injection system or do you mix it in the gas before you use it? Mine will go off if the oil well gets low, if the fuel pump is not clear, if the water pressure is weak and if it is over heating. You might want to call a dealer that has a person familar with your type of engine and tell them what it is doing and how it sounds. Jmax
Don't know what type of motor you have. If its a Merc there are several things it could be.Start with the easiest. If it is a continuous horn. Check the fuel filter under the cowl. It is located on the left front side of the motor facing the engine. It is a small canister type of filter that looks like a screw in type filter.

Second thing is, if its got oil injection. Check the oil resivoir inside the cowl. It has to be full.If it drops below full it will sound an alarm. Fill it with an outside source and make sure the cap seals good. If it sucks air it will lose its prime from the tank and you will get an alarm.

Check to make sure that it is getting oil if its injected. If it is not getting oil it will sound an alarm.

Water temop too hot will sound an alarm. If it is a '90 model or newer Merc it will have thermostats on it. One of them could be stuck in the closed position causing it to overheat.

Not up to par much on Evinrudes So I ain't much on them.. Hope this helps.

Its a 98 or 99 Mer. Force 75 hp engine. Oil mix by adding to tank. I sold this boat to foodsaver and he called me a while ago and it was buzzing while he was on the lake . I told him I thought it was the oil in the gas not mixed properly because he stated it was the first time he had it out. I'm not really sure. I remember this happen before a few years ago when I let the boat set for a while. I rocked the boat to mix the gas and oil in the tank and it didn't happen anymore that day. Talkin about feeling bad right now...
If your mixing fuel then either the motor wasnt manufactured with oil injection or it has been taken off. Either way that shouldnt be the problem, if it was removed and done right that is. Sounds like your getting an overheat signal. Call a service guy at the dealership and let him advise you. If you had a surface thermometer and knew the proper temp. you could check it. I had the same problem on an Evinrude once and it was a thermostat.
merc's have a water seperator and would be like 3 beeps 1 min apart, merc's smartcraft guage will tell you what it is, if any other make im in the dark.
