So I just got done looking over the Cabelas grand opening flier.. What a joke.. You would think for a Grand Opening they would have some decent deals.. I didnt see any.... I mean I can do better at BPS online during Memorial day..

I thought they would have a few good deals just to "kick-start" the grand opening of a store. I believe they will have better deals than what I saw last night on Wednesday. We ditched our buggy and kept buying to a minimum. Just a handful of stuff.

The store itself is nice with some activities...outdoor experts...drawings and giveaways going on this week May 13-17.. Everyone from the Beef Jerky Sasquatch...lol - "Mountain Man" from Duck Dynasty...Bass Pro David Walker, etc. are there at different times this week. Richard Simms old photos on the walls are cool.

Got to say, I agree. I have never thought that Cabelas was very competitive. I had hoped this one would be. emoRolleyes I felt the same way about Gander MT here in Hixson too. Not a big selection but better then some. Price was a little high there too. I find the most competitive prices local are at Academy for me. Then I do try to spend some at Soddy tackle, Hamiltons, Fish Tales and Tri-State. Lastly if the locals can't order it I use Bass Pro to order it from. Let's hope the new Bass Pro offers some better pricing and the others may follow. emoThumbsup Jmax

Academy Sports is my favorite locally but I buy some from the local tackle shops some also. I bounce in and out most everywhere around here though. I order quite a bit from BPS but I run into out of stock problems. I had two XCalibur XR-50 crankbaits backordered...for 2 months. I finally canceled my order and they sent me a gift card for one...and a check for the other ? The problem with the small amount on the gift card now is I'm stuck with it for awhile since my original order was large enough for free shipping. I do love their XPS Lazer Eye crankbaits so I'll probably make another order sometime soon. If you've driven by the new BPS lately you might have noticed little work going on. From what I understand they are having an issue with the dirt there. Just something I was told.

Yep...my thought is, the more competition the better for everyone.I noticed Gander Mountain released a sale flyer yesterday afternoon as well.</p>

Whining and crying? Did not take it that way. This is the discussion part of the forum. However it is good for the local mom and pop stores that Cabelas and Gander so far have not been all that competitive. It will be interesting to see if Bass Pro has a little sharper price. We will see. Jmax

Between BPS and Cabelas, our preference is Cabelas. We have found better deals with them. Bob and I are on vacation this week but there was not way we were going to the new opening yesterday it was packed.

The big chains are not going to be priced any differently then they are anywhere. Bass Pro is always expensive, so is Cabelas. So don't expect any price wars once Bass Pro moves in. They will have a better and bigger fishing section for sure , but prices won't be any different. I stick with the locals and what they don't have I'll get from Tackle Warehouse.

For gear like rods, reels, lures (hard, live and plastic), line and such like I spend my money at Soddy Custom Tackle. As far as I'm concerned, SCT has no peer for service, or fishing information which they share freely to all. If they don't have something I'm looking for, I ask if they can get it. Many times they can and to me it's worth the wait to give them my business.

For boat items, hunting items or anything else, I spend my money at Academy Sports. One reason I like Academy is convienience, but also the fact that I bought a Humminbird DF that had a bad mapcard reader there and they swapped it out on the spot without so much as a whimper. There price was better than anything I could find even on the internet. I also recently bought a hunting rifle there and saved $100 over anywhere else I could find the rifle. I also like the fact that if they are out of something, you can order it and have it delivered to your door for FREE...!!!!! Cabellas, GM and BPS are fancy allright, but fancy won't catch you anymore fish or help you kill anymore deer!!! LOL

Several times each year tacklewarehouse.com and landbigfish.com offer 10% off on almost all of their merchandise. Shipping is normally free if the order is over $50. It is nice, however, to have local shops such as Soddy Custom Tackle or Jerry's Bait Shop for smaller amounts or for when you want an item now. Probably everyone likes to occasionally stroll through a Sportsman's Warehouse or Cabela's just to look at the great variety of offerings.

I can generally beat any, everyday box store price on electronics or trolling motors AND save you sales tax if you live anywhere but GA.....check with me before you buy. Sometimes their sale prices are as cheap as I can buy as a dealer, so that is too your advantage to purchase from them. Keep us in mind as the big box stores come rolling into town!

Cabelas branded gear blows BPS and Gander away. Ill pay a little more for quality outerwear, especially the hunting clothes.

I went today and can honestly say Sportsmans warehouse had what I was looking for so I wasn't impressed at all .

I agree, the wife and I went tonight to look around, while the selection was ok and the service seemed at time over bearing the prices were high, I think I will stay with academy and the local shops . on the bright side we saw "longt70" and his son . supper nice guy. Also I have said this before and I will say it every chance I get, if you are in the market for electronics of any kind you need to call Johnny, you cannot beat the price or service.
