I don't have enough experience to discuss the the finer points of fishing line like some of you old timers here. But I have had a pretty negative experience with this Cajun Red Line. I tried some 12 pound on an Abu Garcia bait caster and it really, and I mean REALLY, cut down on my casting distance. Even with a heavy lure on it seemed like it just died on the cast. Seems like it was a bit more prone to whiplash, too. And then it would be weakend when I picked out the birdsnest to the point that the line simply snapped TWICE at the reel when we were out Saturday. Luckily it occured in such a way that I didn't lose my bait, but after the second time I respooled with some old Trilene (same test) that I had on hand and ZOOM, it cast like a dream. And with no more whiplash problems. Probably twice as far than with the Cajun Red.
The selling point for the line is it's alleged invisibility. That may well be. I did catch some good fish using this over the past couple of weeks. But that doesn't nearly make up for the brittleness of the stuff.
In fairness I have to say that I used the same stuff on a spinning reel while pier fishing in Florida in March and didn't seem to have the same problems. It held up well. But all in all I'd have to advise against using it, especially with a baitcaster.

I have some 10lb on one of my spinning reels I purchsed on impusle. I wanted to try it because it was priced right, looked cool, and it was Cajun so I figured it would catch some fish. On a spinning reel it does okay but it seems kind of hair-like and brittle. I have had 2 birdnests on my reel probably due to line twist with it, but I also have had the same issues with stren, bass pro, and any other line. As far as visibility goes I have the high-vis yellow line on sale from bass pro (only so I can see) it on all my crappie reels and on one of my spinning reels and I have not detected any difference in catch ratios.

I too bought some caused priced right .. figured what the heck Id give it a shot .. I used it a cff3 spent half day picking out birds nests, and it even broke after getting birds nest couple times .. as soon as I got home .. I chucked that spool in the garbage, and re-spooled up with trielene big game.

Its selling point is that it is invisiable, yet they sell you RED hooks that attract fish??!!! I have scuba dived before, and at depth, red turns to black anyway....just my .02

I agree with everyone above on the brittleness of Cajun Line. Its hard to beat Big Game for the money. I can't remember the last time I broke off using that stuff and I use anywhere from 10-20lb. test. I just wish they had flourescent for night fishing.

Hey Dec1, I have some Big Game that is very high visibilty green which may or may not be what you're talking about when you say flourescent. But I bet it would show up extremely well under a blacklight.

I fish with the green most of the time. Doesn't work. Almost everyone makes a flourescent in their stronger stuff. I am sure it has been brought to their attention and am sure they have a reason.

I agree on the Cajun Red Line. I bought some because of the price. I still have it on one of my baitcasters. I haven't seen much of the brittle issues that you guys have experienced but I have noticed that it doesn't cast very well.
Hard to beat the Berkley stuff (for mono anyway) IMHO.
I need to get a spool of the Berkley Big Game.

Chris, did you load up on the toys at Bass Pro Shops?

My only chance at seeing my next birthday is to make sure that I open the American Express bill when it arrives before my wife. Loading up is an understatement. Those darn sale items. You just can't say no!!

I also have had issues with Cajun Red Advantage, but I hear that you should get the "cast" version. Not really sure if that's what it's called, I think it is Cajun Red Cast. Anyway, it is not supposed to have the memory of the other. I had it on about 7 reels and took it all off a couple of weeks ago, just not for me.

I got a couple of spools of the Cajun line to try when it first came out about three years ago. Liked it on spinning and casting reels and it worked good - for about two months. Then got very brittle, broke way too easy. I decided sunlight made it break down - the spools kept in the house were ok but within two month after spooling up and using it I had problems with it breaking. Don't use it any more.

I bought some of this line late last year with the purporse of tying up several carolina rig leaders and fluke leaders with it. I found the line to be very brittle. I never considered putting it on an entire spool because I was not totally confident in the line and I did not want to remove the P-Line I was using at the time.

Same here with the issues, don't like it on the abu rocket or the 5000, it is brittle and wards up very easy , I bought big spool 12 ibs. it was cheap. But will be taking off as soon as I go to Walmart.
