I need some information on a Ranger R71. Anybody have one? Are they too small? How do they fish?

Just go see Lee over at fishnfun and get you a new z520 with a 250 Pro XS on it and then you won't have to worry about whether or not you boat is big enough:) Or you could go see Todd at C&O and get you an Allison that rides better, goes faster and uses half the gas...

The R Series Rangers have quite a following by their owners. Some even consider them to be the best combo of smooth ride & best speed (bare in mind we're STILL talking Ranger speed) of any hull they've ever released. I spent considerable time fishing out of an R93 and loved it. For reference, on the R Series, a "1" (i.e. R71, R81, R91) designation means it's a single console and a "3" (i.e. R73, R83, R93) designation means it's a dual console.

To answer your question of whether it's too small, that would be for you to decide. Here's some R71 specs for you, mallard...

Length - 17'1"
Width - 83"
130 hp max
1125 lbs hull wght
24 gallon fuel capacity

I have never owned a Ranger but I spent a lot of time fishing with Paulj in his R71 when he still had it. I was impressed with the quality of the boat. It rode very well and fished well too. The R71 did not have a lot of room but had enough for an entry level boat. Very well built boat.
The boats that BS is talking about are definitely the cream of the crop. I doubt that there are many fisherman in the world that would not love to have one. At $50,000 plus for either of them though, most guys just can't do it.

Well my deal on the R71 fell through, he sold it last night, I was too look at it Wed. I am now looking again. I may just stick with alum. boats.emoBang

Thanks BS, I saw that one a little while ago as I was searching, it looks nice. For a few thousand more I could have a new G3 Or Lowe Or Triton aluminum boat with a new motor. I only want to go about 50 mph and have a comfortable fishing platform. I really like the Tracker V-18 All fish, if I could find one of those with a 115 opti I probably would jump all over it. But then I am begining to like the higher front deck, so I just do not know what I want to upgrade to.emoBang
